Wrote this during travel, though I was no where near the Shenandoah River (nor have I ever been to West Virginia). We were driving by bus a lot of the way and I remember passing along this stream that had entirely artificial banks for as long as I could see it. I guess I'll be a green radical here and say "beware progress", because while channeling and damming a river may be beneficial to human use and can do some good things for the environment, there are inevitably down sides, some of them major.

And that's my two cents on the environment because it's a debate that will rage until our race goes extinct, I suspect.
