If you look at the more recent art I have of her (and the ref sheet I have being made), the only thing that resembles something directly from Gaia anymore is the forehead gem (which actually hasn't changed at all because I like it a lot) and possibly the collar. She has evolved into very much her own design over the years and I doubt that anyone could make the connection to Gaia if you removed the gem. You can find many similarities across any number of characters, but what matters is how each part comes together to make the whole. Would I be upset? Until I actually see art of your character, I can't make a judgement on that. However, I'd wager they won't be as similar as you think.

TehCait can copyright this as their own. Because they took the time to make it and draw it. As such, no matter the connection, it is an intellectual property of Cait and they are allowed to copyright it no matter whether they used "similar assets" to any pre-copyrighted works. This had reminded me of they type of people that seem to think an artist has no right to copyright whatever they have created.

The notion that an artist has no right to copyright their own work whether based on some other influence made me so frustrated that i had to make an entire account to reply here.
