Tower of Heaven ~An MMORPG Adventure~ Introduction
I thought I'd post a short introduction to another story idea of mine called "Tower of Heaven ~An MMORPG Adventure~".
This is my attempt at a virtual reality game similar to .hack, SAO, and Log Horizon. However, this story is a bit different: For starters, this is not about characters getting trapped in a video game. Even I'm not that cliche! XD
Tower of Heaven is an MMO that is all about limits. Each player may give their avatar one unique skill that can literally be anything. The catch: what kind of ability it is and the strength of it depends entirely on the rules you impose upon yourself for using it. The more strict the guidelines, the greater the power! Say you want your character to be a master of magic. Well... if you don't impose any rules on your character, your magic skills won't be very strong at all; you may even be better off throwing a simple punch. However, were you to impose such a strict rule as "I will only use magic against a boss on even-number floors!" on your avatar, suddenly your magic is doing some top of the meter DPS/HPS.
Tower of Heaven is a game where you strive to reach the top of the tower. It is said that whoever reaches the top first will get a wish granted to them. The thing is, nobody know just how many floors there are to the game, and there are things involved that will hinder your progress. It's not an easy game, no matter your skills! If you want to be the first one to the top, you must know and utilize your limits!
This is a story I feel would work much better as a visual novel or webcomic, but since I lack the artistic skills to draw this in an appealing way, it shall remain in story form unless I find an artist. Any posts of this would be irregular and on a whim. If an artist wants to draw it, however, I will gladly pump out more on a regular basis. :3
Since this is based on an MMO, I'm more than willing to take suggestions for character avatars in the game. You may register as a player if you want. Depending on how much I like your idea would determine how big a role, if any, you'd get. You may get a one-time cameo, a simple name drop, or perhaps you'd even appear as an enemy or member of the main party. Or, you may not get in at all. I wouldn't decide until the story calls for it, but if I use any of your suggestions, I will inform you prior to posting the chapter of your first appearance.

OK. Just note, I'm mostly doing this for the same reason that I compulsively design builds to fit Ryan and Raf for every MMO I run across... plus game setting... and sometimes fictional worlds I'm reading depending on how high my saturation is at a given moment. You are definitely free to use either of them, but I don't have any expectations for them to be used.

Unique Skill: Mind over Body; Ignoring the Effects of Exceeding Physical Limitations
Rules for Unique Skill:
1) Injuries and exhaustion are not prevented, just ignored while the skill is active. All injuries and exhaustion catches up to player when skill deactivates.
2) Skill can only be activated during times of conflict. Conflict can be as specific as actual combat or as general as crossing hazardous terrain.
Character Personality: The biography in the Description provides more than you should need. Without knowing the details of the world outside the tower, all can I add is that Ryan would play the game to protect others. Not necessarily newbies, but it's a great a place to start as any other.

Unique Skill: Infinite Solutions; Divining the Solutions to the Problem In Front of Him
Rules for Unique Skill:
1) Solutions do not need to be practical, just possible.
2) Multiple solutions can be divined, but details of all solutions are retained until the problem is solved, circumvented, or abandoned. The more retained solutions, the harder it is for the player/avatar to concentrate, eventually impeding the ability to act upon the solutions themselves or communicate them to teammates. A problem abandoned can not be the subject of this skill again till either a boss is cleared or the player's progress is reset.
Character Personality: Once again, the biography in the Description should provide more than what you could need. Raf specific goals in the game, or my goals if I rolled Raf and was getting into character, would be more wish interested. Not in receiving the wish itself, but in making sure someone who deserves it does.
...and that's about it. I was right, this system would provide a rather interesting and unrestricted vision for Ryan and Raf. Thanks for letting me share.

You are only allowed one unique ability, but your ability can do more than one thing. As I said before: Your ability can be black magic in general. Just saying that would mean you could do any kind of general black magic, but without the restrictions in place, it's not very viable. The more you want your ability to do, the more rules you need to put on it to make it viable. Every type of black magic you take away increases the potency.
Again, the theme is "limits & restraint". You don't want to get greedy with what you can do.
Since Aira is a character of the story, I will give you an example of his ability:
Unique Skill: Kitsune Leaf Manipulation
Rules:
1. Extreme weakness to fire
2. Strength of the magic is dependent on avatar's level; certain powers and manipulations can only be used after achieving a high enough level (by not specifying exactly what levels, it is up to the system to judge whether or not he can do it)
3. All equipped weapons are automatically replaced by a leaf equivalent that he can create, applying the weakness to fire to it. He cannot create a weapon type he has never equipped, and its durability would equal the highest grade weapon he has
4. When used against another player, Aira's player must reveal to other players what his skill can do and its weaknesses. If he doesn't mention it, that power of his magic cannot be used in PVP combat
5. Aira is susceptible to his own abilities
6. The greater the manipulation of a leaf, the more resources (mana/energy) he uses

Ooh, I really like this. I haven't watched .hack or Log Horizon, but I watched SAO awhile back and really enjoyed it. It's a fun concept to play with, and I look forward to seeing what you come up with. And since you're offering the possibility of characters being added, I suppose I should finally get around to fully fleshing out mine. Here goes!

Description: Rorc is a reddish-brown furred wolf, with a off-white underbelly and throat. The fur on the top of his head is the same length as the fur on the rest of his body. A slightly thicker ruff of fur crosses the top of his chest and back. Also, the fur on his chin is slightly longer than on the rest of his muzzle. He has gray-blue eyes. Sometimes his claws are trimmed, sometimes they aren't. His fur is reasonably well-kept, but Rorc doesn't worry about it more than necessary. Digitigrade stance.
Weapon Pref: Dagger (7 inch blade), Pistol, Amateur level skill at anything else.
Unique Skill: Limited Teleportation (Should probably come up with some cool-sounding name to call this)
Rules for Unique Skill:
1. Must be line-of-sight
2. Must be within 300ft
3. When not in combat, this skill can only be used once every ten minutes. In addition, during that ten minute cooldown even if he begins combat he may not use the skill.
4. Unlimited use when within 300ft of someone who wishes him or a party member harm. (Immediate activation)
5. Must look at the spot he is teleporting to. (Note that this means that smoke, fog, or dark areas are going to be difficult to use this skill in, as he can't see as well.
Character Personality: Likes to joke around, tries to put a lighthearted spin on everything. Sometimes says pessimistic things sarcastically, since he doesn't actually believe them. Enjoys being around others and has a bit of a protective streak.

Character Personality: A bit timid, occationally mischievous and cheerful and helpful, despite the fact that she criticizes things often.

Weapon Pref:dual wielded 1 and a half handed swords

Description: A shadowy character who keeps a hood on at all times, only his dark blue eyes are visible under the hood. the hood is a dark grey and he keeps two purple crystals on either side of his belt. his belt is dark brown leather and has a buckle in the shape of a spirit. he often complains about how annoying all the souls are around him under his breath. If the hood is ever taken off, all that will be seen is a shadowy mist with two floating eyes. he has no arms but his hands act like there are arms (they can only go so far from his body). His hands are dark and misty and dont seem solid but actually are.
Weapon Pref: Longbow
Unique Skill: Listens to a caught soul for help against a boss or puzzle
Rules for Unique Skill:
1. can only catch souls after defeating the boss of the floor
2. can only keep 2 souls at any given moment
3. souls leave after giving information
4. the amount of information given depends on how long the soul has been kept, the longer kept, the less information
Character Personality: A mostly solo player but will work with any team if necessary.
