Oh, right... Guess if I'm going to be posting sketches I did between commissions I should post some commissions too. Ugh, so, in addition to working on my current commissions, I've been plugging away to get this tragically old one done too. So, I think it is! I'm not even going to TELL you guys when AirGuitar paid me for this one... Let's just say I feel really... REALLY bad and hope she still likes it.

Lets see here... Well, the denim I actually just grabbed a small thumbnail from a fabric retail website and altered it so it would tile and fill a lot more area. Truthfully I should have just grabbed a photo of one of my OWN pairs of jeans and done that, which I will do next time...

This is an awesome piece of work. I really love the character interaction going on within which sets a mood between them and the viewer that looks at this piece. I particularly like the frabric folds, texturing and shading as well the detail on both subjects. The shadows cast from their eyeglasses looks great as well as the rest of the lighting.
If you actually met the people in this picture. This is SOOOOOOOOOOO Them it's almost CREEEEEEEPY!

AirGuitar had described a scene where Schweppes and she were sitting somewhere, he with beer bottle, and with their various articles of clothing (I had to leave out one thing - his headphones because they would have interfered with how his head is positioned). She described the poses pretty well to me, and when I sent her the sketch she said I had gotten it dead on. Along with a pile of reference pictures of their characters, she DID send a couple snapshot portrait photos of themselves, so when I was working on each character I tried to keep their respective photo nearby so a likeness might develop through osmosis.

Well AiR is a good friend of mine and I can tell you it LOOKS like them almost PERFECTLY. So Kudos Spigot! You did absolutely AWESOME on this particular piece... I wouldn't have expected anyone to get this perfect. RIGHT ON and sweet!

Well, most of it required modifying a photo, altering colors and whatnot, and tiling the textures so I'd have a bigger piece to work with... The jeans are just overlaid with a denim texture, the sofa has a paisley one, and the hat mesh was a piece of black fishnet that I inverted and messed around with.
Heh, if the patterns look like they skew, it's an illusion caused by shading... Truthfully, for small patterns like on the hat, yeah it would have been easy enough to do that. For the couch and specifically the jeans, if I were to try that it would be a nightmare of chopping up and attempting to stitch that texture back together to fit... and for the pace I was working at, it just wasn't worth it.
I see you have a piece from freakin KAJI of all people in your gallery, so I hope you're not TOO choked up :P

Thanks Blitz, I remembered you commenting on the linework and I was all like "ya colors SOON" and then... well, shit that was a while ago. Luckily it was little prods like that that got me out of this drawing funk so I could finish the bloody thing.

Yours should be much better, this piece was worked on over a period of... uhm, a very long time, so I had to mix old work with new work and lots of stopping and starting and blah blah blah... And ultimately you're paying me a lot more than I was for this work, so I really want to make you crap your pants.
