To all my loyal watchers I am starting to get back into the routine of posting and resuming my client commissions. I will be returning to my Equestria dreamscape soon but I thought it might be wise to first show an example of what I am doing for my paying customers recently.
This was a commission I did recently for Ben Herrin and it was inspired by an earlier B/W sketch I did. link
I'm rather happy with the piece since it is almost entirely colored pencil. The only exceptions being the water which was done in gouache. The water was the part I spent the most time chewing over in my mind since I had no direct photo reference to work from. Instead I cobbled a collection of reference images that had "some" element that were kind of close to what would be in the picture, and then I fudged it until it worked. Same for the barn interior, which gave lots of practice in rendering woodgrain in some kind of timely fashion.
I'm also pleased with how AJ came out in this. In fact this image is about as close as I've gotten to portraying what things look like in my Equestria dreamscape. Especially AJ's muscular build, she's one solid earth pony!
Artistically this piece was heavy inspired by Gustave Caillebotte's 1875 painting 'The Floor Scrapers'. link
Image size is roughly 16" x 15" and is done in my usual colored pencil, gouache and tiny bit of marker and technical pen. The working surface is vellum finish Bristol Board.

Yeah the cistern is painted black so it absorbs a fair bit of infrared but if you want a consistently warm shower or bath at Sweet Apple Acres go indoors and use the bathroom proper. This one is just designed to get the worst of the mud of you so don't track it in.
