silverbirch is amazing to work with. Very thorough, very professional, and best of all, she enjoys a good challenge and a fun idea. I gave her a host of 'em to pick from, and we went with this one. Took a few thumbnails to settle on a composition that we both liked. This, I think, is the first Portal-trickery picture I commissioned that didn't show both portals, but I think this arrangement gets the point across with just the one portal well enough that the other portal was just unnecessary. Also had her leave off the wings, so as not to compete with the scenery. And without wings, Rooth looks pretty eastern, so we'll put this under 'eastern'. ;)I'd add some colorful comments, but Silverbirch is so cool, she provided her own awesome little narrative for the piece at her original post, which you should fave (instead of mine!). Here's what she wrote:
The hard-baked ground was particularly stingy that season, withholding all moisture under the relentless eye of the sun.
Only the more delicate flowering plants under the protection of the shade of the farmhouse were thriving, their own personal sprinkler providing them with fine and refreshing mists every morning and evening as the sun's watch passed on from the capacity to boil the water as it sat on their thick glossy leaves.
Hot and dusty from traversing the fields, Rooth noticed this stark difference in plant life. If only there were a way to get this sprinkler water over to the crops - surely these farmhouse ones could spare their water intake for one morning?
Maybe he could get a wonderfully cool shower out of it, too.

He's clever that way. ;) But full credit to silverbirch for really breathing life into this crazy idea!
