Lily and Mira fix a private security ani-droid, who in this case happens to have a male chassis. Male ani-droids do exist, but since it often raises the general question “Why is it a male?” after years of female as standard, male ani-droids tend to be used more as a status symbol than for quality.

I don't know if I find this adorable or disturbing..... The cheerful smile and expression while dismembered and possibly smudged with trespasser blood leaves me unsure if I should chuckle and offer compliments on finding a viable solution to the situation he found himself in or to maintain eye contact while slowly backing out the door....
Either way, I am sure his owner considers him a very useful status symbol.

Androids would theoretically have 'pain receptors' to tell them when a particular part is damaged, and to avoid further damage to that part, but unlike people, they'd be able to turn that signal off a little more effectively than an adrenaline rush... or an anesthetic that doesn't result in significantly diminished awareness.
Yeah, they should have sensors to tell them when they have received damage. But it probably wont work like biological pain receptors. What would be better, a android just being like "Oh. my arm is broken, I need to see the mechanic" or a android being like "OH MY GOD THE PAIN!!!! FFFUUUUUUUUUUUU"
