"Doo doooo doo doooooooo!"
I've got a 3D print!
So, Shapeways come through with my first print ever! Sort of. The print was actually four pieces of the ball joint doll joined by a sprue, and I guess the sprue broke while they were removing the print from the powder(laser fused nylon powder print), and they didn't realize part of the print had broken off. So, while I don't have all the parts to properly test my joints and make sure they'll work without needing redesign, I did confirm that the "strong and flexible plastic" is high detail enough to hold the facial details of my faceplates!
I have contacted ShapeWays customer support and while they have not decided what they are going to do to resolve the issue yet, it sounds like they plan to either reprint the whole thing or refund my money, at which time I will simply have them reprint just the missing piece.
In the meantime, you get to enjoy this nifty photo of my "resting bitch face" faceplate. The finished figures are going to have five swappable faceplates. One sleeping plate, this one, with with a smirking smile, one winking with the tip of a tongue sticking out(silly face) and an angry face.
