Mako grew up in a rough neighborhood outside of Inkopolis, leaving behind her an abusive home at the age of ten when she decided to run away. Upon reaching the city, the young girl quickly realized she had no way to sustain herself, and took to sleeping in alleys and on rooftops. It was at age eleven that she joined her first Turf War, where her natural skills as a fighter came to light. An older man named Cuff had been watching the match and approached her at its' end, promising her money and a roof over her head when he noticed how filty and skinny she was.
So began her life as a paid cheater. Big names in Inkopolis & beyond would often bet on matches, paying her (and others like her) to cheat during the game to swing it in their favor. For a young girl, it was an ideal job, and she slowly worked her way to the top of the shady industry. At seventeen, Mako decided she was tired of the game. She wanted to play real matches, get her life on track - stop throwing games or switching sides mid-way through. It all happened when she met a girl her age named Shimmer. How beautiful she was, with her self-cut hair and earrings. The way she always seemed to grin, no matter what the day had given her. The two became close, some would even say lovers, until Mako's nineteenth birthday.
Shimmer simply disappeared. Without a word or a note, the girl was gone from Mako's life as quickly as she'd entered it. With free time and a broken heart, Mako poured herself into Turf Wars, taking on the nickname "Thrasher" by many of the contestants. She became one that most feared - and yet loved - to face. Her natural talent had only grown, but now she was using it for fun, and to climb her way to the top. With a newfound image of herself, and a bright outlook on the future, Mako has finally found happiness.
