Finan is a quiet soul who would have been fine with a life of quiet contemplation. He spends most of his days working in a soup kitchen in the seedy part of Saint's Cross. He's selfless, and sweet and always looking to help others. A trait that isn't always shared by others. Sarian, his sister, thinks her brother a foolish man that is being exploited by other around him, but he just smiles at her and tells her that it is his penance for past deeds. She never understood what he meant by that, but just assumes her brother to be a little touched in the head.

So why the staff? Why the morning star? Well, you can only be compassionate and forgiving for so long, then someone needs a reminder that occasionally even the Shepard has to be forceful with the flock.
