Undertale: Sans' advice
WARNING, POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD.
So I've been thinking about my two favorite skeletons lately, and came to the solution why I still prefer Papyrus as real life buddy on the big picture. When you look at Sans' and Papyrus' actions and dialogs through all the different runs of the videogame, you realize that Papyrus is the forever kind-hearted soul behind a warrior outfit which won't lose hope in the good in you, no matter what you do to him. Sans is a merciless warrior behind a forever-smiling face who does pranks and puns when in a good mood. Even offering mercy to you in a battle will be a deadly prank. It's easy for me to picture him hunting the souls of previous lost humans before deciding to do a favor for his best audience when it comes to knock knock jokes.
Note that I still love both skel bros to bits, though I must admit Sans is much more fun to draw because of his design. Child skulls are creepy AF, google them. They look like they belong to evil superbrains.
And yes, it's been a while since my own drawings scared me.

Papyrus is my spirit-animal :D Such a cool dude :3
I actually have never thought of Sans as merciless, I have to say. The way I always felt about him was more of someone who has great power, and knows that with great power comes great responsibility. He never really gets involved in anything in a meaningful way, observing, but never really acting in any way other than commenting. And even then, he usually just fools around and makes his puns. Rarely does he ever give a genuine warning (but hell,is it creepy when he does). I always had the feeling that he does that because he doesn't want to abuse his powers, he doesn't want to be the one to make a real change, because he can't be sure he'd end up doing the right thing.
The only time that I can think of that Sans actually did something impactful other than being a moral compass would obviously be the part when you have to fight him. And that only happens when you yourself have risen the stakes that high that he literally "can't afford to not care anymore".
Anyways, that's just my impression. Not saying yours is wrong, I don't think there is any right or wrong in these kind of situations, just what I got from a great character in a great game :) Still, I'd say I probably like Papyrus more as well.

You have a point too! Sans does only show his badass side when "he can't afford to not care anymore". I also noticed he cares most about his brother, because when he judges you, he'll always be very mad at you if you killed his bro. He sounds more forgiving if you killed everyone except his brother, than when Papyrus was the only one you killed.
By the way, is it even possible to be killed by Papyrus? As soon as you're low on energy, he captures you and puts you in his DUNGEON garage.

Indeed, he does, and I also remember how when you met the two for the very first time, Sans was very eager to make his brother happy, by having you go through all of his puzzles.
And as far as I know, there is no way to get killed by Papyrus. He just captures you over and over and eventually gives up and lets you pass, I think. I also like how Papyrus doesn't even seem to understand death. However many people you kill, he always seems convinced they will come back one day. Sans even tells him they all just went on vacation in several cases. No one really has the heart to make Papyrus sad.

Oh Gosh, yes, the vacation story! On my first run, I didn't figure out how to "spare" Undyne and ended up killing her, and it broke my heart to watch her die because I love everyone with a fighter spirit. Then at the end of the game, I got this call from Papyrus saying he can't reach Undyne, she's probably on vacation, and must be having a lot of fun because she never calls back and so on. :'C
Also, on my first run I didn't know how to spare Toriel. I fled three times hoping that would do the trick but nothing changed, so I ended up killing her too. Then Sans talks about the knock knock joke story in the restaurant, and all my feels got stirred fiercely again.
That game, man.

Yeah, this game really makes you pay for all of your screw-ups, be they intentional or by accident. But it does so in a way that makes sense and feels like it was really just your doing that carried such heavy consequence.
So I have to admit, I watched a bit of Undertale before I decided that I needed to play it myself, like up to the part where you first meet Sans and Papyrus, so I already knew how to spare Toriel. I really loved figuring out the different ways on how to spare people, and there is just so much variety and different approaches on how to do so. Most memorable might still be Metteton EX for me. Seriously, making the audience go so wild that they tell the boss they love him so much that they don't want him to leave... that's something new!

Yes. I lost it at "Mettaton! There's a Mettaton-shapped hole in my Mettaton-shaped heart!" xD
Also, I realized only lately that the first call was from Nabstablook. Knowing from Mettaton's journal, he seems like a close friend of his, and they'd originally planned to make music together before Met got his fabulous body which caused a greater ego. Luckily, they start a band in the good ending. c: We reminded him of how much fun it is to perform with someone else, haha. <3

Oh yes, that one caller xD Such an amazing quote as well ^^ We should be looking for ways tointegrate that quote into our everyday vocabulary :3
And that shows just how much love for detail Toby put into the residents of the underground, everyone has some kind of relationship to at least one other character, even Nabstablook! It was a great moment to find those journals of Mettaton and kind of piece together that they were somehow related to Nabstablook, even cherecters like Mettaton have a rich back-story in this game!

Absolutely! I love games that don't monologue about every detail of the story, but just lets you find out most of it yourself! I LOVE games where you're out discovering things! I also loved how nobody explains what kinds of attacks I have to expect from all the characters. Okay, maybe there was this one time where Sans told you about Papyrus' Blue Attack, but still, no more details than the name. xD;
I think I had the biggest surprise when I was in the secret basement of Dr. Alphy's lab. It explained her insecurities and the story's details much better. She played a much greater role in everything than I had thought.
Honestly, it took me some time to find Alphys likeable though. On my first run, I was mad at her for building a robot with a human-killer software to chase me around, and for making a lot of puzzles to pretend they've never been there and she's a great friend for helping me solve them, etc. When Mettaton told me everything, I thought "MAN! I spent so much time with unnecessary crap only because you're lonely and need to make up things like this to feel useful?! Screw you!" xD I also did notice the hidden cameras in different areas before I met her. I don't know, someone who stalks you, then makes extra trouble for you, lies to you about it, and all that to appear like a helpful friend, was not a friend to me.
But then the hilariously awkward date with her, you, and Undyne happened, and the story in the basement, and I suddenly kinda understood her better. And I liked her after she decided she wanted to be brave and honest again, even though the consequences may not be pleasant. c:
Haha sorry, I keep fangasming about the game again.

Yep. Not to forget, Flowey has some freaky powers too. I need to draw that guy anyway. He gave me goosebumps more often than Sans. Sans is number 2 troll for me, haha.
The whole videogame is genius with simple things like, having certain characters have the same "powers and knowledge" like you as the player. Knowing your stats and progress, be able to save and load their own files over yours, etc.
Also, you actually have to hack if you want to remove the permanent consequences of having done a Genocide Run once you finished it (Geno Run changes the future good ending into a not-perfectly-good-one). Because deinstalling and reinstalling the game won't do. The game acts like a virus. :'D Holy shit.

It's more difficult when you use Steam, there's actually tutorials on Youtube how to hack it so it works.
And the Genocide Run only has its consequences when you finish it (up to the point where you meet Chara and give them your soul). If you quit earlier, it shouldn't have the effects~
