riddleaugust as a commission. (riddleaugust has not submitted this yet as it is still a work in progress.)
Since it's Valentine's Day, and the characters are a couple, I thought I'd put this up despite it not being colored yet.
Credit to riddleaugust for suggesting the heart pattern in the tails. Originally their tails were just going to be entwined together (a sign of intimacy for chakats). Now they're just starting to twine their tails together, which unnoticed by them has created a heart-shape.
Since this is a WIP I should really put it in scraps, but then it wouldn't be visible in "browse". As a compromise I will put up normally for now, them move it to scraps later (or possibly just delete it).
Here are Chakat Amethyst and Chakat Sandstone - but not quite the ones you may have seen in my gallery. What if history was just slightly different?
Amethyst had been abnormally large for a chakat all hir life. As shi reached adulthood shi topped out at 6'1" tall (186 cm). Shi had a number of romantic relationships, but never really felt shi'd found the right person. As shi entered hir forties, shi began to wonder if shi ever would. Shi wasn't running out of time yet, considering chakats' 150-year life expectancy, but the feeling of something lacking in hir life was growing stronger.
Then shi was introduced to Sandstone. At first the attraction was basically physical and significantly one-sided - Sandy was of above-average height hirself, but wanted a noticeably bigger mate, and few chakats fit that description. Am was doubtful about the prospects for an extended relationship built on such a foundation. The fact that shi was literally twice Sandy's age - 42 versus 21 - rather didn't help matters.
But it was wonderful. Sandy was energetic without being tiring, spontaneous yet reliable, affectionate but not cloying, and attractive to boot.
After a month they'd moved in together. After six months they'd declared themselves as denmates - and they'd only waited that long because it would have been somewhat frowned upon to do it sooner. Sandy was already talking about cubs, and shi was oddly insistent shi be the first to get pregnant...
One quiet and gently rainy afternoon, during a pleasant cuddle, Am raised an interesting hypothetical question: were there other worlds, where "possible" became "actual"? Did alternate versions of themselves exist there? Had they managed to find love with each other? Could coincidence - like, say, Amethyst being stunted and shy instead of big and outgoing - have prevented them from even meeting?
(Characters created by hp1741a. The chakat species was created by goldfur. This is not canonical to goldfur's work.)
(Update: reuploaded as "general" rating since riddleaugust did a couple of minor fixes and removed potentially naughty bits)
