Endless Realms bestiary - Amethyst Dragon
Bestiary artwork for Endless Realms, a D&D-like "pen and paper" fantasy RPG I'm working for.
Amethyst - tranquility, piety, fidelity, sobriety
Differing from other dragon concepts in the game so far, this dragon isn't a demigod or avatar of a particular elemental or cosmic force. For the gemstone dragons, I was given almost entirely free reign, so I decided to take inspiration from historical and pagan lore.
Amethyst, the party-pooper of dragons X3 My husband insisted I paint/texture him the way raw amethyst tends to look the way it grows out of rock, pale around the base before turning purple :)

I don't know "Which One" you mean, but Guild Wars 2. You drew a Charr from that game on a commission, which first drew me to your work.
As far as Lieutenants - None in particular. Just a similar design (It's the purple crystals). There are two known lieutenants - The Shatterer, who gets killed about twelve times per day, and Glint, who decided to Stop Being Evil and got killed in a failed attempt to defeat Kralkatorrik. Leilryu drew a picture of Glint here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/16648022/
Today has been a very dragon-filled day for me.

So the Amethyst dragon is the only dragon that's the designated driver for the parties. Making sure no other dragon flies drunk xD I mean lets be honest who would want to be in the pathway of flying rocks.
So with being Amethyst does it mean if can dig under the ground and pretend to be just a geode, or maybe when they are young they can roll into a ball and then pop out giving playful little chirps before the Amethysts grow out all of the way to stop the rolling. Also in combat does it have two defenses? Like one for getting through the rock outer layer and then the Amethyst second layer.
PS if it wasn't for spell check all the times I spelled Amethyst would be wrong xD

lol, yeah, Amethyst is sort of the square of the bunch it seems, haha. Just means he's reliable and trustworthy ;)
I'm not sure to the extent the dragons "are" their namesake materials - I've been more thinking of it in looser, more symbolic terms, and trying to fit matching appearances/textures/etc. in whenever possible. I more think of it like, the dragons existed, and because of their properties, the gemstones were named after them, rather than the dragons are literally 100% made up of said gemstone (felt that was a bit limiting artistically).
But yeah, some dragons definitely do seem to be "more" their element/gemstone/whatever than others! As for how they operate in combat, no clue! X3 I'd love for them to be able to roll up into a super tough geode-ball or have some sort of impenetrable geode spore-form or egg or hibernation/regeneration-form, but it's really up to the production team to decide - I just draw pictures X3 I come up with a lot of ideas as part of the conceptual design, but I'm not actually the writer and the final say goes to the project leaders.
Also, yeah, sometimes I'm tempted to spell it Amythest, with the E and Y swapped :b
