Leonard vaulted the fallen column with ease, landing lightly on his feet, continuing his dash to freedom. The rumbling booms behind announcing his pursuer’s intent to catch the intrepid hero. Hand resting on the hefty satchel full of recovered treasures, Leonard pushed himself harder, his long powerful stride eating up the distance between himself and the arched doorway far ahead. The high vaulted ceiling of the castle echoed with the sudden roar of incandescent rage that rang out behind him. The booming sound wave seemed to physically push him further along as the white hot heat from the accompanying blast of fire caused sweat to bead on the back of his neck.
The castle walls shook, trembling under the assault as the mammoth dragon smashed his way through the buildings stonework. Little regard for his home penetrated his thoughts, so consumed with catching the liberator of his latest and most prized possessions. Leonard was unfazed, enjoying the sport in out pacing the lumbering dragon; it’s vaunted size granting it no advantage inside the palatial confines.
With preternatural reflexes Leonard jinked to his right, and through an open door as another blast of molten fury roared by and engulfed his previous position. Through chambers filled with dust covered furniture, he wove his way through the remaining wing of the castle. The frustrated beast lost ground once more as it searched each space, hunting the elusive adventurer. One more turn and Leonard found himself back in the main hallway standing before the great doors that led to the world outside. Heaving on the gargantuan door ring, the bloated and aged timbers gave way to his strength and he was free from the confines of the dank castle.
As the adventurer cleared the steps the outer doors were splintered by the great bulk of the dragon’s head bursting forth. Massive jaws snapped closed repeatedly as they came for Leonard, who stopped and stood his ground. With one last heave the dragon’s momentum was arrested, stuck tightly in the entryways rubble, mere feet from the handsome human. Smiling, Leonard side stepped around to one of the enormous wrath filled eyes. With a little salute, and a hearty chuckle, the rogue was gone, disappearing into the dense forest outside the castle grounds.
Coming to a panting halt some ways into the woodland, Leonard paused to catch his breath and look at the crown jewels he’d recovered. Inspecting himself he found he’d wet his pants ~
***
“Wha!” Leonard awoke with a start. As sleep cleared his brain he found he’d fallen asleep with an mug of milk in his hands. The contents of which now filled the crotch in his breaches. Cursing he shifted quietly and assessed the state of his pants, then quickly dug out his other trousers from his knapsack. Once cleaned up, and with his damp clothes drying by the fire, Leonard gently lay back down against the sleeping wyvern. If it wasn’t for the quiet in the forest he might have missed her soft chuckle.
