Photoshop ???hours. Took longer than it should have, 50+ by my guess. :\ I had another one of my weird inflammatory attacks and couldn't see for like 5 days straight. Trying to paint when everything looks like it's all been Gaussian blurred sucks... and not in the fun, life affirming way. But I managed to get it done. And now back to my mountainous pile of commissions and Christmas/birthday/anniversary gifts!
Edit: I will likely be making changes to this as my eye sight clears up over the next few days so if you're planning to download as a desktop image or for whatever other purposes, maybe wait a few days.

Allllll the time. XD Every piece is a unique experience for me. I think that's because I'm always experimenting and trying different things, some of which I may be really good at, some of which, not so much. But I always try something different in every piece. That's practically part of my artistic creed at this point.
Whenever I start to feel this way, I remind myself that if I did it once, I can do it again. I just have to want it badly enough and be stubborn enough to not give up. That sounds like some corny motivational meme but it's the truth. I just tell myself; "I am not going to compromise. I'm not going to let this defeat me. I AM going to make this shit look EXACTLY like I want it to, even if it takes me the rest of my life."
That didn't always work in the past but recently, I've found if you keep at it with this attitude for long enough, it kinda starts to work out.

That's actually a solid way of looking at things! Thank you, this was a highly inspiring conversation, I really appreciate you taking the time to type out your thoughts!
Edit: (Hit reply too fast LOL)
Yeah I've been stuck at the "holy shit im bad at this" stage but it's something that's gotta be overcome! That and sometimes I drain myself trying to "get there fast". Man, whoever goes around saying "art is easy" needs to get bapped with a rolled up newspaper. Hah!
But yeah, again; thank you!

This is an absolutely gorgeous piece! The level of detail you put into your work is simply astonishing, especially given how small and intricate some of it is! But that's half the fun of looking at it, too, since I can spent forever just looking to see everything you've put into one piece. I really like the slight blur on the falling leaves and all of the tiny beadwork on the lady's outfit, especially the choker and the silver bangles hanging on her dress. The butterflies fluttering all around the scene, and perched on her, are a great little touch, as is the little bird perched on top of her instrument. And oh, the forest around her is just fantastic! The light streaming down through the trees and all the lovely plants and blue lanterns surrounding the raised walkway just look amazing! Fantastic work, all around!
Well, some different colors anyway.
She's obviously a lady of good breeding in all senses of the word. Gorgeous work, as you always do!
I guess I have to admit ignominious defeat. This is the 3rd picture in a row I've failed to find Froggie in. You win, you she-devil artist!!

Nope. Probably the opposite actually. Painting and drawing become harder when I have an attack but I am deeply compelled to draw and paint, even if I'm in pain and can't see very well. I just can't not do art. Until the day I go blind, I will be doing art. It's like a bodily function at this point. It's something I have to do. I am compelled to do art in a way that no other can compel me.
Wowsers... I sound like a bloody lunatic, don't I? :P

I also hadn't been able to find Derp Froggy in the last few pictures, but this time, my eyes just happened to land on the right spot, and I found him in just under a minute. Of course, that was secondary to enjoying another beautifully designed and detailed work of art from you.
Stuningly beautiful as always. I dont think I've ever seen such an amount of detail and quality of colours and lighting as in your pictures. It's just amazing that you can make something so realistic but at the same time so outlandish looking. Simply amazing. As othery have already said - In my opinion one of my favorites of your works.
:D Thanks! I'm actually really glad you said that. The translucent bits in particular required excruciating amounts of nitpicking. Lots of mixer brushing, lots of teeeeeny tiny little strokes, lots of erasing redrawing bits over and over. Why CS6 doesn't have stroke-stabilization is beyond me. It should. Lazy Nezumi Pro is great but a little expensive for basically being a glorified stroke-stabilizer.
I can't tell you exactly how long it took but it took over 50 hours for sure. Probably somewhere in the range of 75h or more really.
In any case, thanks again. :)

The amount of details on this is astounding... The cloth looks so real, must have taken a lot of time and attention but you pulled it off perfectly. I don't think it could have been much better than this.
You also didn't miss a detail... Everything is just a treat for the eye. It's relaxing to look at <3 Not really enough words to describe how good this looks and im no art critique, especially borrowing a language that's not mine.

It's difficult to comprehend how you are able to create these works of gorgeous art on a regular basis, most especially considering your vision difficulties. It would take me an hour just to pin point all the tiny little details you layer into something like this. And this piece in particular really strikes me hard. I'm simply gobsmacked at how beautiful she is. I keep bouncing between her eyes, her hair, her face and her costume. There is so much here I just wind up staring, drinking it in and occasionally wondering how you got so talented.
Thank you so much for sharing these with us. You deserve all the praise we can heap upon you.

This is quite possibly my favorite piece by you. The dress in particular has a ridiculous amount of details, and I really love the blue/purple butterflies! Do you offer a high resolution of this piece, and if so, where might I find info on that? Thank you for sharing this with everyone ^^
Finally....I found the ^%$#@ frog!
Silverone, you're the only artist at FA that actually caused me to change monitors, hardware, drivers and OS. Your work (derp frog or not) is a joy to view! Always a welcome surprise in my watch list.
Thank-you, from the bottom of this ancient otter's heart! For your perseverance, your skill and and for not putting this behind a paywall.

:D Heh. Lol. Thanks. Very kind of you to say.
I've considered getting a Patreon but if I ever do, I'd still be offering my artwork free here. I'd just give my Patreon supporters full-res versions and maybe other extra perks. I can't imagine not sharing my work with everyone freely. It's a joy to see how people react. I like seeing people's imaginations unfurl. I like seeing what stories and questions they come up with. I like offering guidance and having playful banter. I feel like I have a kind of relationship with my watchers here. Maybe I'm weird but it just feels almost... familial in a way.
In any case, thanks again. :)

Dayum, that dress she's wearing looks like it's worth a million dollars. Gorgeous!
Then I saw the sun rays on her headdress and thought that was gorgeous too. And the lanterns. And the bridge. And the trees...
Then I imagined a montage of all the items in the picture at zoom-in level, and Steve Erwin narrating all of it with the word, "GORGEOUS!"
It really is, all of it. You should be super duper proud of yourself, just in case you aren't already. Still high on the top 5 furry artist of all time in my book.
Side-note: You're becoming exceedingly good at hiding your frogs. I found him, though...eventually.
Keep kickin' ass there, silverone.

XD Haha. Not quite THAT much. The longest amount of time I ever spent on a piece was around 225 hours and that would be this one: http://bjpentecost.deviantart.com/a.....lass-257532973
Some of the patterns were drawn in Photoshop and some I made in Zbrush using stroke orientation options. A lot of it is just noise + mixer brush. For example, the lace hanging directly below the instrument- that's just an ellipse-shaped mixer brush with low spacing, sampled from her eye, then lightened and desaturated. I made a bunch of circles, shaded the whole thing to fit the lighting scenario, then added in little circles, squiggles, and gems with a different mixer brush, again, sampled from elsewhere in the image.
