(~1 week after the end of Roommates: Arc 1)
It was a cold, overcast afternoon at Aubrey State University, and the students were moving quickly between their classes as the skies looked like they might open up at any moment. One such student rushed off to a different location, however. With no class left in the afternoon, this flamedramon was headed to a sanctuary of a different sort.
The cold air was harsh on Giancarlo's throat as he jogged briskly down the street, heading for a rather large book shop he had seen coming into the University, but between practice and classes and his new roommate, he hadn't had a chance to go check it out.
Indeed, the week had been a whirlwind of events after his brother had left him alone with Jr. that night... it brought a flush to the flamedramon's cheeks to think about it. Something different about him, for sure... always keeping him guessing. So caring, and yet very strong at the same time. The digi almost went right past the opening of the unadorned building, but the sight of books brought him out of his daze long enough to step inside the big heavy glass doors, the warmth of the store quickly enveloping him and making him feel at ease.
There were racks upon racks of books, which was to be expected. Striding in a bit, Gian noticed that there were quite a few students here, and there was a small cafe tucked away to the side. Shivering a bit as he adjusted to the new temperature, he unzipped his light jacket a bit and headed over for the Art section.
"Someday... I'll create works just like these..." he mumbled to himself, pulling a book off the shelf to glance at, then putting it back after leafing through a few of the pages. "Maybe I should try drawing Jr.... but would he like it?" The digi frowned a bit as he pulled a book on painting technique, and went to sit down in one of the huge leather chairs that seem to be in every book store, waiting for customers to sit and relax.
The atmosphere and the silence were soothing to Gian. Reading helped him get away from the world for a bit, put himself in to a new one. Nobody would bother him here, he thought. "Should bring my DS here sometime...." he mused to himself as his stomach rumbled. "Hmm... shouldn't have skipped lunch." The flamedramon slowly got to his feet, returning the borrowed book to the shelf and heading over to the corner of the store he'd passed by earlier. There was a small bar serving the usuals, coffee, tea, sandwiches of varying tastes. But before he could get there, he saw something more unusual.
"J-jr?!" Gian squeaked as he saw the koopa sitting at a table for two, reading a comic book while having a drink. "Mmmm?...." Bowser Jr looked over and a grin spread over his face. "Well well... fancy seeing you here, huh? Have a seat."
The flamedramon found himself blushing again. "I'll be right there. I need to get something to eat." The digi's tail swayed as he went up to the bar for food. Of all the places to run into Bowser Jr... he wasn't expecting him to be here, but he was happy to see him none the less. Meanwhile, in the back, a couple of the ASU music students were setting up for something. What appeared to be a shire and an otter were taking advantadge of the "Beat Poetry" corner on the other side of the cafe, setting up a keyboard and unpacking a Soprano Saxphone.
Gian made his way back to the table where Bowser was waiting for him, sitting with his back to the stage and the would-be entertainers. He hoped they wouldn't be too distracting. Bowser looked up from his comic as the flamedramon sat down, shifting his bag of bought goods to give the digi some room to set his food. "Pretty crappy weather. I thought it was supposed to be summer here." The koopa gestured out the window to indicate the unusually chilly afternoon. "I figured you'd make it out here eventually. A lot of students hang out here to relax and listen to the bands that come now and then. The heat in here's about ten times better than what we get in the dorm." The koopa laughs and grins. "Haven't seen these two around before though. Must be new." Gian nods, slowly recovering from being suprised again by another facet of the koopa across the table from him. "Do... do you come here a lot? Or were you just waiting for me to show up?..." The digi trailed off as the duo on stage started their performance. It wasn't Gian's taste really, he preferred rock. But, there was something else there...it reminded him of a song he'd heard on dot hack, with the simple piano supporting the otter's heartfelt sound on the sax.
"Gian?..." Jr. looked across the table as the digi seemed lost in thought as the music went on. "Hey! Snap out of it!" he chuckled as he gave the flamedramon a playful but swift kick under the table. "Don't go all soft and mushy on me now..." Gian gave a startled grunt as he came back to himself, unable to help but smile at his roommate... no, his boyfriend. "Y-yes Jr.... sorry 'bout that. Just kinda went away for a few there... not sure why." Bowser Jr. just shook his head and went back to reading his comic, although it paled in comparison to wanting to watch the guy across from him.... "I can't believe my luck lately... this guys totally handsome and mmmf...heh. We'll see where we can go." Jr thought to himself, glancing up at his lover, his friend, his roommate.
There seemed to be a hush over the library as the smooth sounds of the shire and otter filled the air, not intrusive, but seemingly augmenting the feeling of comfort and serenity to the old book store. Time stood still it seemed as they wove their spell. As they finished, wordlessly, they packed up and left, passing by the Koopa and Flamedramon on their way out... the shire seemed to smile at the couple, as if he saw something in the two he wished he had for himself.
Gian, having finished his snack, got up and brushed himself off. "Junior?.... Would you like to come back to the room, or going to stay here a bit longer?" Bowser Jr. looked up with that grin of his. "Depends. I told ya the heat's better here, unless you've got a plan to warm up that icebox of a room." Gian blushed. "I think... I can come up with something suitable..." Junior got up himself, putting his comic book back in the bag as he prepared to leave. "Heh... sounds like a plan, then. Let's get out of here before it starts to rain and get even more miserable out." Gian could only laugh, and the two stayed close together as they left for their room.
Gian smiled inwardly, very happy to be so close to Bowser. Something different for sure about him... it was going to take some adjusting, but transferring here was starting to look like one of the best things to happen to him.

What a FANTASTIC piece! Not to mention the story on the side. It all blended perfectly! However, there was ONE thing I noticed..... just a tiny little detail that only a fanboy such as myself would pick up. In Gain's profile I think it was mentioned that he liked Classic Rock, not Metal. I don't particularly think it's that big of a deal, but I'm too amazed by your musical talent to really care. Keep up the excellent work and good luck on winning that contest!
