...Well, that's one heck of a cliffhanger to go out on. I mean, it's pretty clear that Croc's gonna be all right...more or less, anyway...but I'm really more worried about Shiloh.
Y'see, Falcone, THIS is why you avoid business with stereotypical Russian mercenaries. It just does not end well.
Sincerely,
The Cheshire Cat's Master

Come on, why'd you have to end it THERE!?
In all seriousness, though, I'm really pumped to see where this is going. It's definitely a nice change of pace from the previous chapters with the addition of action and higher stakes. But besides that, I really enjoyed the little tidbits of character development in this, especially Shiloh's talent as a cook, and Waylon's surprisingly hygienic tendencies. And of course, a lil' stuffing here and there never hurt anyone. XD
Also, I found it kinda funny that Croc didn't really seem to mind being a lil' thicker around the midsection. I'm wondering if that was because he was thinking, "Eh, I'll burn this off in no time," or if it was more like, "I don't look half bad like this." XD

Gotta leave 'em wanting more.
Thank you. I'm glad you liked the escalation. It's been planned for a while with things coming ahead for Waylon. But naturally, the calm before the storm certainly didn't hurt either. I wanted to dig a little bit more into Shiloh and having Waylon react and encourage him for a change. I also figured that people are always making preconceptions about Waylon just on his appearance alone. So any little thing to prove then wrong was fun to include.
That remains to be seen. I like to think that Waylon thinks a bit of both. But I personally think the latter is definitely true.

Well, you definitely succeeded with that one...
Yeah, this was a nice transition into a sort of "Act 2" in this series. Slowly builds on existing characters, while also building tension. And yes, one of the best things about Crockers is his unpredictability. He looks like he'll rip you to shreds, but he just wants to kick back and read some French literature and watch Seinfeld. XD
Hehe, nice. It kinda makes sense that he wouldn't be too upset about it, unless it's restricting his movement and really weighing him down. A lil' bit of a gut isn't that big a deal...
...and that also makes me realize that your interpretation of Waylon has a bit more confidence in his body than mine. XD

If it's any consolation, comic books do the same with each issue.
Yeah, in a sense, that's what I'm hoping to go for. That way, once the action gets started, with any luck, the readers have some form of incentive to care about those in the middle of it all.
The Seinfeld image will always slay me.
But in a nutshell, that's Waylon. At least from what I've seen. At his core, he's just someone who wants to get by, and circumstances make that difficult for him a lot of times. Yet, when he finds that respite, he makes it a point to savor it. Which is part of why he really kind of comes to his own around Shiloh, but is more cold and distant around fellow gangsters who do just see him as a mindless animal or the muscle.
To be fair, your interpretation of Waylon was a big inspiration, especially aesthetically, as well as his heart.

That they do. XD I definitely have an incentive to care, and I hope the next part's coming soon.
That sounds about right. When people treat him like he's more than just a dumb brute, he's more willing to open up to them, and show off his more sensitive side. :)
Hehe, thanks. ^^ It's nice that you put your own spin on the character too, with him maintaining his self confidence while everyone around him tries to cut him down. I'm almost hoping that at some point he responds with "I'm beautiful."

Thank you. I hope it delivers for you.
I think so, and that's why guys like Shiloh end up meaning so much more to Waylon, because they don't see a monster.
Probably the only good thing to come from that film is that glorious line. But I think Waylon's got enough confidence in himself to maybe express similar sentiments. Or just flat out do the quote.
