It's a pun - get it?
I think I read somewhere that Baloo was originally meant to play this role in Mickey's Christmas Carol. As much as I love Willie the Giant, I think Baloo would have fit that character a bit better. Plus, I've always loved the image of that ghost, with his loose robe and his throne made of food. Who wouldn't want to embody all of that?

I suspect they went with Willie because in his original appearance he was at a table full of food. Baloo never seemed to store any and just took what came which isn't quite in keeping with the opening appearance. That said, Baloo's living in the present does make a lot more sense. I'd have liked to have seen that version!
