did a few revisions to my Alebrije inspired dog Dante inspired halfway original-design halfway-cosplay suit... and I think I like it better now (I think?) I brought in the white of the circle fur with the chest and claws, and the coral of the circle pattern into the finger tips. made the lower limbs crisscross match
EDIT: this is far from the final product, I already just changed half the colors... again.

ya know, i used to love your work, but i have no idea whats happens in the past couple years....
i miss your equines and awesome big cats and your quad suits.
but you are your own person with your own business and i guess if your still making money, i cant really sway what you do or make.
best of luck i guess

no im talking about ALL her work within the past couple years. its been lackluster, and you can TELL she dosnt put the same level of skill or time into the work anymore.
the snow bird things she had for sale recently looked like a starting fursuit maker made them, all the eyes and fur patterns on her suits recently have lacked attention or detail.
just overall, im dissapointed. i found this artist years and years ago, and really looked up to her suits, but now i feel shes just not loving her job like she used to, and its sad to see.
then again, i could jsut be some crazy cunt on the internet xD thats totally just my honest opinion, as well as a few other peoples who arnt brave enough to say anything

Um... I just made what is easily my most complex quadsuit ever only a few months ago. And I made 6 sabertoothed cats last year, I also did a new Beast which is a direct reflection of my older work. And while I did not have a horse client last year I did have an ibex, a goat and a unicorn... so not sure why the critique?
PS I can't help it if no one orders quads or equines, they have become quite sparse, especially the quads.

care to compare a similar new and old piece? Because while I can see my style has changed up over the years I still dedicate a lot of time to each piece, and in the last couple years I definitely have put loads more care into the durability and internal finishing than I ever did in the past.
Some pieces by design are more simplified, namely the toony things, but when it comes to things like the recent grumpy raccoon or the ibex I left no detail unturned representing the real animal as best I could.
With that said, specific pointers as to where my work has changed over the years to read as displeasing in the eye of the viewer would be helpful, because I have been in business now for nearly a decade (officially 10 years this May) and I could honestly be blind to things simply due to how routine my life building these things has become.

Heck, I could help here
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/25674465/ the proportions on this are mildly frightening. The chest is too big and the arms are weird (shoulder area is huge, paws are teeny tiny)
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/25016706/ A big theme I see a lot recently is that now your suits have no necks
DADs:
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/25935159/ this just looks like sorta dull and expressionless
when they used to be fun and full of life like this one

I loved your older suits, so no hate. Some things just definitely changed

oh thanks for letting me know!!
yea usually on FA when people hide a comment im like 'um wtf?'
but thanks for the heads up!
dude if you wanna toss me notes or anything i would be more than happy to chat about your suits from an artistic standpoint?
i mean, im just one woof with a big mouth and even bigger opinions, but if your willing to hear me out? lol
i also fear that comment sections are prone to 'drama' from other people who dont know how to be civil~

Just my own points, I can see what's changed is your style a bit, and the interesting creatures your CUSTOMERS ask for. But the detail and work you put into them haven't gotten any less than before. If anything, I see a lot of care put into your suits you create.
My viewpoint is that maybe those who feel differently is because they like the look to your old work... not new, and don't like the change, and see it as a bad thing rather than a good one. Nostalgia can be a blinding thing for many, sadly.

I literally just found beastcat and i actually agree with rainbow moose andaspenbear. I saw this image and thought it was a joke to be honest; or a new suit maker an amateur. I then looked into the gallery and found my worst nightmare; realistic suits, which usually look just terrible. That being said though, as I went further back into the gallery, I saw some amaaaaazing suits (especially that quad suit of the DAD holy smokes). While good ones crop up every now and again, after scanning, I too, can see that the quality has changed recently and perhaps not in a good way.
But again, I know nothing about suit making, this artist or anything. I’m just going by what I think looks good and whatnot. I also don’t like realistic suits either so maybe I’m not one to put an opinion on this x). The fennec and owl aspen linked above though with the gigantic eyes were extremely frightening. Interesting approach at “cartoony” lmao

That's the problem here. It's okay to have opinions and different tastes to others, but one can't really say something is bad about something that actually isn't something they like to begin with, which is what I see a lot.
And to comment about this current suit... it's MEANT to be crazy. Of cause not everyone likes stuff like that, but then many others do. And it's clearly not in the "final finished stage" either, but pinned together prototype of "do I like the look of it".
I follow suit makers of all types of styles, and someone made something just as eye-burning as this. Heck, i even own the old head to it myself.
Regardless if you are skilled of 10 years or an amateur of 10 months, styles change and sometimes styles go slightly wrong/different even when you put just as much love, attention and detail into ever piece as the first. It just happens.
And I'm sure for customers, if something doesn't look right to them the maker would change/fix it. But then if they are happy witht he final product, then all is good :]

there is a difference between me 'not liking' something, and noticing the construction of her suits under the fur.
as an artist, i can also tell when something isnt going to turn out as intended.
beast wants this rainbow suit to be "Alebrije". however her approach is a cluster-mess of patterns and colors, whereas a normal Alebrije design has some flow and unity to its colors and patterns.
but overall, this is the internet, and im just happy Beastcub was nice enough to hear out my opinion ^^ it was very civil and nice of her. and i appreciate that!

Oh no, I saw your comments earlier (before removal) and saw your points, so my comment was more directed at the one who commented me (when they don't like realistic styles to begin with, so kinda hard to even start to like something or see any good in them if the thing makes you "meeeeeeh" to start with) along with others I also see doing it a lot just because they don't like the style to begin with.
I'm someone who loves colour and craziness, this sort of thing is right up my alley, so to me, I see no problem with it. I also haven't seen any real problem with her work aprt from style changes, style differences and what the customer asks for/needs for it to fit them. However that doesn't make me right. I just enjoy seeing artists flush out ideas and let their fingers flow... regardless of how it turns out in the end (style-wise). :]

to be fair Dante in the film Coco is a bit of a cluster crap, that is because the character himself is such a derp, and this one is supposed to represent Dante and halfway be a cosplay of him and halfway my own design (since I am not sewing all his actual body markings omg nope) The rest of the Alebrije on my plate will be much more refined compared to this one, especially the feline quadsuit Alebrije as she is supposed to be regal with stern eyes and a contrasting but coherent patterning of red, pink, orange, yellow and blue.
ya know..... your totally right lol

that doggo is a bit of a freakin mess lmao.
but like i mentioned in the note i jsut sent, its just a matter of making sure things flow together properly~

yeah he is, and looking at the belly/chest on the suit here I think I need to change it to not have any white because as it is it's maybe too far from being Dante? I want this to be enough like Dante that kids at cons call him Dante while also not getting sued, and I don't know how much I should count on the expression and tongue to make this "Dante"
I'm gonna do something different for sure. I can save the circle fur for the coatimundi alebrije as it is going to use a white based spike fur and some solid white, so it will make sense there.
For this I think I need a solid colored belly and then a colorful pattern fur for the chest, no white.

Dante is not a "cluster crap" his design is actually pretty elegant. They didn't make him obnoxious or clashy like this suit... He's a comic relief character. All the alebrijes have very colorful designs too. He's an alebrije cos he is a spirit guide and as a character has meaning in the film vs just being a derpy side character. I keep seeing you use words like this and "eyesore" and "chaotic" to describe these characters /alebrijes and tbh it's really disrespectful even if you think it's a playful joke. It's really not. This suit feels like a horrible misrepresentation of the art form. It's fine to be inspired from Coco but I don't quite understand what you're making here cos Pixar clearly put a lot of respect and work and study into their alebrije designs but that's not what you're doing here. This suit, to me, just looks like a lazy attempt for the heck of calling something an alebrije. Like if you can't take the time to properly understand or respect a cultural art icon and build something that properly represents it I don't think you should take it and play around with it or call this an alebrije. Taking all the colorful patterned furs you can and mashing them together just cos you have them does not make this an alebrije. Please do not call yourself a fan of this culture or art form if you look at Dante and think "cluster crap" or if you're going to lazily misrepresent an art form that is big and important part of a CULTURE. My biggest fear when Coco came out is ppl in the fandom taking this beautiful complex art form and making it a joke. You're already starting that :C
I can try to make excuses for using yet another disrespectful word after being corrected with eyesore, but I can't other than I was tired and stupid, that was uncool of me.
"cluster crap" "eyesore" "chaotic" are all horribly far too harsh a way to describe Dante, and I did mean Dante specifically with that poorly used wording, I did not mean it to refer to Alebrije in general for by comparison to Pepita, others portrayed in the film, and the art form in general, Dante's coloration is more enthusiastic to match his personality, I used childish wording before but bright, bold, enthusiastic, contrasting, that is what I meant.
I am honestly trying to figure out how to make these fabrics pleasing, and there has been much revision that you can see if you follow Twitter, I have put a lot of thought into this with this being the latest plan https://twitter.com/TheBeastcub/sta.....73965134258176 if you still hate the use of fabrics at least please still understand I am not lazily slapping bright crap together willynilly and calling it something. I also plan to do hand-applied markings and accents to tie the patterned fabrics together, especially with the head, to make this a coherent character and not just a mess of patterned fabrics.
I am also not just working on this one, I am also working on a saber cat heavily inspired by Pepita where I put an extreme amount of thought into every patterned fabric used, the saber cat project has left me feeling refreshed and excited as I am seriously in love with how it is turning out. Please save your judgement of me until after you see it, it is something I am truly proud of and excited to wear. And if you feel I still need correcting on the matter of pleasingly representing the Alebrije art form in fursuit form upon seeing it please inform me as I do intend to do public events and there is a huge Spanish community where I live and I don't want to ignorantly further be disrespectful.

I think if you could balance out the colors it would help a lot. For this one as an example each side of the body has all patterned furs and each side is colored differently, it would look much more balanced if each side were symmetrical in coloring. Not saying you should stop and change everything at this point since you have already put the owrk into it but studying real alebrijes for future costumes is what I recommend! But overall it's up to you what you build in the end. It's completely fine to be inspired and build something for fun, I am glad to hear these projects are bringing you enjoyment! That is not an issue at all! I just worry, since you're a very popular maker building something new, it is going to give others in the fandom a first impression that alebrijes are ANY colorful crazy or clashy looking animal when they are definitely well planned beautiful works of art and usually are mystical creatures. They originated from a man's dream where he saw strange mixed creatures and beasts that don't exist in the real world. I love Coco and have been a fan of Mexican culture for years, I am just very paranoid about the fandom cos it tends to take new things and ruin them, make ppl annoyed at them(like when DADs became a thing), etc.. ;w; I just don't want that to happen with alebrijes cos they're seriously beautiful form of cultural art and my worry is people will just see a crazy suit but won't bother to learn about the artwork it was inspired by and therefore potentially misjudge the real deal.
I take back some things I said, cos I know you did not mean any disrespect and you are trying to do right by the designs and culture. From a costume building standpoint I'd just suggest using less of the patterned furs all at once and incorporate larger hand-sewn designs to balance the patterns and colors out!^^

I am indeed trying to be careful and not make a bunch of "sparkle dogs" though I know at least a few people will see them as such. I do know I see a lot of comments adding to the disrespect issue, but I hope to turn said attitude around when this is completed.
This one is mismatchy left to right as it's supposed to be a halfway cosplay of Dante, and his left and right don't color match, but I did pay close attention to the /kind/ of fur I used left to right, meaning I used the same spike fur in the same places, the same bubble fur, the same sparkle fur, the same patterned fur, just in different colors of each kind of fur from left to right. I then crisscrossed matched the lower limbs so they'd be a step more balanced. Then I made the inner legs, feet and parts of the hands match left to right to further balance things. I am trying to have this one be more like Dante in its use of asymmetrical color, the rest will be symmetrical and have more limited color pallets.

I have decided to post no further images until it is done, this is such a far cry from what it will be, it also is inciting disrespectful comments from viewers.

Yeah, I've noticed this as well sadly. I was originally also a potential customer. The sabercats seem kind of bearish to me for some reason? Tho I loved that sniper quad to bits. The eyes on a lot of the newer suits also seem really far apart to me compared to the way they did like on the new beast suit compared to the old beast suits?
I'm not sure how to describe it. I'm not saying they're bad, I'm just noticing a huge difference and don't really like it that much but if it's what the customer wants. But like I said I agree with ya Aspen and with Rainbow-Moose.
I can't complain about it since they're not made for me but just pointing it out as well. I am curious to see tho how this suit comes out and how the style evolves. I've wanted to mention it for a while but didn't want to unless someone else mentioned it soo. I'm not gonna stop watching BC as a maker though because I do like to see what they come up with for suits. Just my two cents on it.
I would liek to add though this is one of the few makers I see actually experiment with some odd furs and designs so that's nice.

Pretty much the same, I follow Beastcub since alot time (not trying to be a freak, but many years lol). Her new suits, even those realistic ones seems to have gone more toony overall (eyes, expression, shape) and perhaps a bit weird proportion wise. Not trying to be mean, I wouldn't be able to even do half of what she's doing, but it's a perception I have since a while, was a bit shy to tell in the fear of it coming out rude.
I really hope you don't plan on putting the Alebrije tag or name on this when it's done. This is not what an Alebrije is supposed to look like or stand for. A lot of the comments and words used are not okay. It's taking a stab at someone's culture. My culture. Alebrije art forms are deep, meaningful, powerful. They are a symbol of so much more than just brightly colored animals and beings.
This doesn't represent Dante at all in the slightest. It doesn't do the Alebrije any justice. Every time I see a comment with an insult, it makes me want to literally scream.
I get Dante might seem like he had no careful thought into his design but that's because you're not part of the culture that grew up learning about the Alebrije and how their designs are created. Dante does have a lot of heart and carefully thought out designs. This suit doesn't.
I'm sorry but this suit isn't going to be one I can appreciate compared to some of your past work. I agree your stuff has gone downhill but I still follow you because I admire a lot that you can do with your work and passion.
This is not one of them.
I know someone's probably going to start screaming at me for this comment and more than likely I won't respond. I just wanted to put my thoughts out there and let it be known that I'm not the only one of the Latin American population in this fandom that's a bit peeved and hurt by the things said about this suit / topic and the Alebrije.
I can only hope that the rest of this "line up" of suits you have planned can have more careful designs thought out and I would like to encourage you to please take a moment to research the culture and history and art forms of the Alebrije before you continue.

I have replied to your other comments with what I have said to another who approached me on this matter. I am sorry I let my crass use of language affect how people feel about me approaching the concept of Alebrije inspired fursuits, I feel wholly sorry and disheartened that I have screwed up so ignorantly and so badly.
I have done research into the Alebrije before even began collecting the furs, the fact they originated from an artist's dream when he was struck with fever and that the community adopted them into their culture so lovingly is very inspiring, I loved their looks from the film Coco but as I looked more into them I loved them as a concept and wanted to try my hand at creating my own in my most beloved art form.
Upon seeing any finished "Alebrije" fursuits from me I would greatly appreciate feedback on if I have done the artform justice.

I appreciate the understanding in how the harsh words can effect others, especially those of us in the Hispanic community.
I would like to point out another thing that I read above where you plan on wearing this to Hispanic Cultural Events / Festivals.
Please don't.
To put it bluntly that would be like dressing up as Pocahontas from Disney's movie and going to a Reservation for a Festival or public event. I really wish people would realize that just because Disney makes a movie about it, it doesn't make it your culture.
I know this is going to sound super harsh but there's literally no other way of putting that lightly.
I appreciate when people want to ask questions, research more into things of other's cultures. And yes, I can see you read the wiki page. But there's so so much more to the Alebrije as time has passed with them being such a huge part of our culture.
I read over your twitter and to quote it stated "I bet all the alebrije will be like this, I will start with a basic idea and then keep slapping colors around until I like it."
No. Stop. Just. Stop. Please..
Alebrijes are not just slapped together under you like you see. You put your heart and soul into designing them. And you understand that they are your guides and have part of your spirit into them.
Wiki page can only go so far into telling you how they came about. Only someone within the Hispanic culture and heritage can tell you more and that is because they are not widely known nor created for show in America. Actually unless you happen to be able to go to a Hispanic museum of any kind, you'll likely never find Alebrijes in local galleries or other places of that nature.
I wouldn't mind giving advice on the designs but to be perfectly honest I don't like the idea of someone not within the Hispanic community making an Alebrije fursuit just for some hit-or-miss fun.
It's a spiritual art form.
Not a way to make a quick buck or make something "nuts" for the laughs or views.

oh, oh no, I meant no disrespect with "slapping colors around until I like it" (again lousy harsh wording, gosh I had no idea my language was this crass) that is literally my design process, all art starts with an idea and you experiment until you like it, think of the furs as my paints and I am working with colors until something speaks to me (and as it is I am still waiting for this one to "click" and feel whole)
I will admit I did not know how personal Alebrije are, as they were born of an Artitist's dream, can be found for sale as souvenirs, and there is a parade of them I was treating them as mythical creatures vs personally spiritual ones, so I was treating them more akin to creating like a Chinese dragon, Kitsune or Kirin. With this in mind from now on I am calling each one "Alebrije inspired" would that be more appropriate?
I will also keep my 2 suits at cons, as they are representations of Pepita and Dante they are halfway cosplay so just anime cons and furry cons for me, unless I happen to be invited by an event coordinator who saw me in costume (like how I was hired for a cultural event in Japan Town by an event coordinator who saw me in costume) but I will let the Hispanic community bring me in if they want to, I certainly don't want to be disrespectful.
PS how do you feel about the sugar skull heads I have done? the canine and the bird? Am I doing ok with those?

I want to thank you for your feedback. I have opened a discussion on Twitter about it and through commentary from Twitter and FA I am learning what steps I need to take to continue in the right direction concerning these projects. I am thankful my ignorance was brought to my attention so I could correct my mishandling before any projects were completed.
Having them being "Alebrije inspired" costumes vs outright calling them Alebrije is certainly something that will happen, I will also include a link to the Wikipedia article (unless you have a nicer source?) with each one posted online, I will also be making it clear these represent a cultural art form of spiritual animals and they are to be respected in the comments.

I totally get what you are going for. To me, the layout of the different patterned fur needs more angles. It seems to have harsh horizontal lines when it goes from one pattern to another. Other people may have more of an understanding of this project if you use more angles and curves... almost in a paisley pattern. It will be a ton more work but it also may help others appreciate this effort more and keep them from rushing to harshly critique it.
Keep up the great work
Keep up the great work
It's honestly shocking to see so many people tearing you apart over this?? Especially
considering they are a known scammer. With MANY negative reviews , AND them being posted on artist beware as recently as last month.
https://artists-beware.livejournal......otter.nonsense
Like any criticism should be coming from them ?
With how many customers
has screwed over and taken advantage of, it makes your cultural misunderstanding look like puppydog's kiss by comparison.
The list of people being scammed by
is long.
They want to talk about doing the right thing?? They have no concept of what it means to do the right thing! With their never-ending parade of emergency journals begging people for money to fix their F***ups.
Despite
's shady reputation, they decide they want to barrel in here, and tear into your work? Over a misunderstanding on how something was worded?
If Bird had any shred of decency, if they had any respect for you Beastcub, they could have taken it to DM's. But at this point they've made it quite clear they'de rather focus on the mistakes of others, then work towards bettering themselves and fixing their own shortcomings ( MANY).
As far as I've seen, after watching Beastcub for 9 plus years, her customers have always been taken care of. Because she's a real artist, who runs a real business. Clean up your own life before you say something as toxic as"please don't bring this to festivals"
How dare you tell an artist what they can and can't do. SMH.
Beastcub, I commend you for responding to them (and others here) with the level of maturity that you did. And for what it's worth if you did bring these costumes out into the public, I can guarantee that the response to them would be overwhelmingly positive. And I'd like to say, that I've been watching you build for going on 10 years , and your style has evolved so much in that time. Clearly you are running a successful business because of your talent, don't let people critique you to death . Keep creating!
