‘I am a newly risen Jolteon hero who patrols the digital communications networks of Goldenrod City, known as the Cybervolt. My real name is Aokin, but I don’t let anyone know that while in costume. My powers are unique, allowing me to physically enter the virtual dimension called cyberspace, and only my arch enemy, Dr. Shocknoir, shares a similar ability. Hunting that mad Manectric is not easy, and I only picked up traces of his activities. However, I realized that I cannot do this alone; I must seek help and form alliances with others if possible in order to corner Dr. Shocknoir.
Searching through the main news communications feed, I filtered through the details, and discovered a certain Jolteon has been around protecting the city from the real world. He sounded like he may have had a great deal of experience as a hero, and might just be the kind of ally I need. So I sent him a gift of homemade thunder cookies (based on my sister’s recipe) with a note to meet me at the parks at a set time.
After waiting in cyberspace near the park’s telephone booth connection portal, I sensed the familiar static feedback of another Jolteon approaching in the real world, so I triggered the calling system of the phone to ring, opening the portal so I can slip into the real world through my usual pixilation ability, reassembling on the other side. And sure enough, the very hero who inspired me in my early days as an Eevee, stood there in surprise, now wary. I couldn’t blame him, as it is not every day that one meets a traveler of cyberspace.
“Who are you, and what are your intentions?” the masked Jolteon quarried. “Are you the one who sent the cookies and asked to meet here? If so, state your reasons as I have other things to do tonight.”
I smiled, calm and relaxed. “Please be at ease, my friend. You can call me the Cybervolt. I have the ability to physically travel the virtual dimension of cyberspace, where all forms of communications travel from place to place. However, there is another who also possess a similar power, my nemesis and also the very Manectric who gave me this power, Dr. Shocknoir. He’s proven difficult to track lately, and I need help cornering him, but since I am still a little inexperienced with this, I figured you might have some insights to heroism and taking down a villain.”
That clearly seemed a bit much, for his eyes narrowed in suspicion. “How did you know of me? And by how much did you learn?”
“I did some light research through the news feed, so don’t worry as I am still as clueless about your secret identity as you are of mine. Though, to send the cookies I had to program the correct pathway so you can find them conveniently and receive my message. I hope to offer an alliance of sorts between us, since both our enemies are mad geniuses who are up to no good.” I smile in satisfaction as I watch him absorb that information. “Also, Rolling Thunder, you have always inspired me even before I became what I am today. I looked up to you from the start, so I know you have a good heart. You may be a loner, but when push comes to shove, you do what needs to be done in order to finish the job, even if it means teaming up against common enemies.”
The caped Jolteon nodded after a moment. “I must concede your point. Your request sound reasonable, and I cannot deny that there are foes who are too powerful for one hero alone to take on. Very well, in the name of justice and freedom of Goldenrod City, I shall accept your offer under one condition. If you want me to help you with this Dr. Shocknoir, then you must also help me track down Dr. Siegfried. But should you turn traitor, you shall face justice by my wrath.”
I nodded, having expected as much. “Fair enough.”’

This amazing artwork was made by my wonderful friend
FangzahnBisclavret. He loved the idea, and it gave him an opportunity to try a new style of noir art using a single color to pop out amidst the greyscale of the rest of the scene. And I’m certain he had some fun working out how to represent Cybervolt’s pixilation ability. This is a gift from him, as we plan to do some RP in the future involving our characters, possibly with more artworks like this later on. Also, in addition to this repost of the artwork, I wrote my own side of the two-viewpoint story of the first heroic encounter between the Cybervolt and the Rolling Thunder. You can read Tesla’s story version of this event on his submission here!
