I was asked to make some Robin Hood heads, so I put together this little sheet showing my process for drawing/coloring such things.
I've never been one to completely mimic a style, so hopefully he's still recognizable. ;)

Do you mean the lineart stages?
The "basic lineart" part is pretty much the ink I put down before erasing the pencil. I found that if I do the full inking and then erase, I either smear the ink (doesn't dry well over graphite), or the ink fades from the eraser.
And then I build the lines up with Micron pens of various sizes.

When you do the basic and complete inks, are you working in digital at that point (or do you just have killer-steady hand)?
I always work myself into a bit of a tizzy by finishing my rough drawing, which I often love leaving in that state, but never quite certain of the technique a lot of folks use for inking. Most times I use a brush-pen, but I'm curious about digital inking too.

Yay! That actually gives me some faith that I'm not just way being behind the curve or anything.
Over the years I've gotten more impatient and way to make the first mark the perfect mark, which seems like a reverse of what my expectations should be, so I was vaguely tempted by the idea of digital inking. But I never found a setting for my tablet that made the inking feel natural... plus, I think I miss the friction of the pen on paper.
The plastic-on-plastic always felt sort've... weird.
Thanks for giving me the scoop on your tech-ni-queue!

I find this sorta funny. At college we were asked to do a rotation of a bust of a pre-made character from a movie, so we can learn to animate and rotate characters for the first time and stuff. A lot of people thought to do Robin Hood, but always discovered that all the reference even from just screen capping...there are so many structural and design inconsistencies its sorta boggling. Looks good though, really close to the films.
