I was two beers in and my brain couldn't decide between my two comfort zones.

I hate to say it, but it's the fact that I had a few drinks that made it possible. I have a lot of inhibitions when it comes to my personal work, it's a form of executive dysfunction. I have lots of ideas, but I can rarely make that step where I sit down and actually start painting. I was tired and tipsy and honestly I didn't care very much what the result would be so long as I painted something, and that's often when my better works come out.
I know very well how much easier it is to say than to do, but try not to put too much expectation on your work. Your next work doesn't need to be a masterpiece. It just needs to be your next work.

It really just takes a lot of practice, the more the better.
Don't worry if it's good or not. One thing to try is to work fast and not worry about how "Good" it is. Be ready to throw most of it away and do more. Another good thing is tutorials to work on specific skills.
Keep at it and you'll be amazed at your progress as you look back on older work.

Holy smokes this is amazing, I love the concept, the design!
Dragon Tiger, all those spikes and giant teeth, I really like it.
1.5 hours, what the heck! Could I ever get to something like that one day I wonder, most likely not, most likely far from it!
Though your advice to just work without thinking, I got the same from another artist. That by far is the most important advice, after all it's better to get something down than to only be stuck with all those ideas that I am unable to draw. It's the best way to get out of a art block, though moving on can still be a challenge.
