"The relationship between Canada and the US is pretty interesting. There's the joke about how we're America's hat, and all that. There's a lot of similarity, just because of the proximity, but also the narcissism of small differences creeps in at times, y'know? Like we're afraid we're nothing more than America's hat. I feel like people wave the flag a little sometimes because they want to remind themselves that we're distinct; they don't wanna get swallowed by American cultural and economic hegemony. I'd prefer to wave their flag just to tweak their noses about it a little - that's way more fun."
