Up until now I've included characters that have been glorified jokes. Ones that I think would be funny to see or ones that I just feel have earned a spot in Smash's roster. We now enter the section in which I would literally shit myself if I saw them added. After getting such characters as Simon Belmont and Banjo & Kazooie, ones that have been dream entries for me for some time I can safely say that I am happy with Smash Bros' current roster. No, not everything added I've been happy with but I'm content that I got ones I really want... but those characters are from franchises I didn't really get into until more recently. Ones that I've learned to love as I've gotten older. If I were to dig deep, think back to one of my biggest gaming loves and inspirations as a child then there really is just one answer. Earthworm Jim.
Sadly, I know this is one of the ultimate pipe dreams to have as Jim's copyright has remained in limbo for the past several years and now that I think it fully rests with his creator, Doug TenNaple, who has gone out of his way to say that Jim will be a comic series with no intention of returning to his video game roots, its safe to say the nail is already in that coffin. Still, seeing our super-suited, dirt eating hero return for one final Smash would be great to see. He has a great array of things he could do, both legit and absurd and while he's sadly fallen into total obscurity these days, I feel if the Ice Climbers were iconic enough to get in, then so can Jim!

What rock have you been living under?? lol
1) Doug isn't the nicest person, and it was a big reason he's had such a hard time getting a new game made.
2) He's actually had the rights to Jim for almost 10 years now, and started working on EJW4 almost just as long,
3) He is indeed making a new game, but, likely due to the first reason, it's only being released for the Atari Amiico, which is a system made by
the music designer of the first two games, Tommy Tallarico.
4) You're definitely right about this being a pipe dream, because, not just for the above, but
Doug is incredibly anti Nintendo, and has openly expressed his disdain not just for Nintendo, but specifically Super Smash Brothers in general,
saying that Nintendo is a company that entirely relies on nostalgia to sell games, and he doesn't want to be a part of nostalgia,
let alone appeal to appeal to their fans, directly calling them all man babies who want nothing new
Which is hilarious, because that's literally the only reason anyone knows about or wants new Earthworm Jim content to begin with.

I merely meant that his copyright is now secure under Tennaple, whereas before it was in a weird limbo between him and Interplay, though I was unaware of how long this had been a thing. I'm well aware that Doug is a raging douche nozzle who uses his religious views to put himself on a pedestal above others. I never meant that because he now officially owns the copyright that it meant anything good, just a confirmation. It is ironic though of him to say these things when, as you said, Jim is only remembered due to nostalgia and even more so, Doug himself is only remembered due to Jim. But when has a militantly Christian person EVER been openly hypocritical, am I right? What is it with people being named Doug that makes them pompous assholes anyway..?
Yeah, in the case of Earthworm Jim, it was a group of people that made the game,
and he didn't even create Jim himself nor did he design him, just the concept and animation.
The fact that he solely wants to be the creator of EWJ is really weird.
It's like Henry Selick, who wants to take all the credit for Nightmare Before Christmas, despite it very much being Tim Burtons' creation.
