I like how once he asked for a Federal Marshal's badge/authority, she immediately began addressing him as Marshal Reacher. There is no reluctance about it from her!

I'm looking this up, but I believe all U.S. Marshals have to be confirmed by the U.S. Senate after appointment by the President. I think, however, he can be appointed a Special Deputy Marshal without confirmation, though the director of the Marshals Service usually does that.
