This is part thirteen of a series of images followed by stories that follow Warren, a human. and Alice, a Tordenchi. As they both survive during the Rynar's invasion of earth.
It truly is terrifying to think of how different our kinetic weapons are from their Erastel guns...

My armor beeped at me as I switched it to a higher power mode; despite having a full charge, for now, this battery won't last long on continuous use... I took a slow breath as the suit compressed slightly, taking weight off my leg and setting it to the machine rig. With a hand cautiously brushing over my wounded leg, my eyes snapped down to the lone creature in my hand. It was almost heart-wrenching to see him, an entire person's life laying in my hand... The strange black road under my feet had surprisingly good traction to get up the mountain. Taking away the worry I had of having to climb on an injured leg... Pippy still lay unconscious in my hand, but I could tell he was shuddering. I still felt horrible for what had happened but tried not to think about it.
Without my help, Pippy very well could have gotten sick and died. That's what I kept telling myself as I limped along... Until I felt it... A soft stir in my hand told me that Pippy was waking up... My terrified eyes met his, as now a long-strained moment of silence followed... Trying my best to stop and flash an understanding smile, all I got from the injured creature was a scream of panic! Hurriedly my hands cupped around him before I bent down. Having to bite my tongue to not yelp out at the sharp jab in my leg.
With him all but flopping out of my hand and hitting the ground, he cried out in pain while holding his leg. Subconsciously my ears twitched, and my posture changed from frantic to worried as I took a scoot back. Pippy was slinging a slue of harsh consonants and rough language... I know I'm evil Pippy, but jeez... Trying my best to keep a smile as he slowly calmed down. Raising both hands to show that I had nothing, and I kept my distance to show Pippy I meant no harm.
The tension in the air was malleable, like a thick fog. While my smile did waver, I twitched it back into place, but my ears sagged. Pippy's screams at least had died down after he spat at me. His attention shifting to his leg... Or, what's left of it... My heart went out for him. Even if he tried to kill me... Nobody deserves to be amputated in the way I had done... Despite my good intentions, my sheer size alone became the problem that left him without a limb. The thought sunk into me as I all but tried to hide my face from the man.
With him no longer screaming, I slowly perked back up and forced a smile. Through his yelling, I realized the explosion from his rocket had damaged much of my hearing, even if temporary. While I still couldn't hear too well, a noise caught my attention. It was low and far off, but the hissed guttural language of the Rynar hung in the air all the same. I suddenly perked my head up. Had Pippy's screaming led Rynar here?! I don't even have my trusty metal pole!
It took but a moment of my eyes snapping back to Pippy for me to realize he had heard it too. Slowly opening my hand, I began pointing to it. Not daring to snatch Pippy back up unless I utterly had to. As the seconds pass like hours, the hisses grew louder. Having to stop myself from whimpering out, I brought my hands closer. Pleading for Pippy to get in before I had to grab him.
Just before I was to finally panic-grab Pippy, soft roaring echoed through the air. High above, I saw a purely terrifying sight... Two small dots in the air, flying at insane speeds overhead. While usually, I'd assume it to be a bird. My mind flickered back to the mayday and crash landing I had barely survived. How just a few of those vehicles had taken down a UAF gunship as if it was nothing. Shuddering at the thought of being the target of one of them, I brought my attention back down.
The two planes passed overhead, and after a few long minutes of holding bated breath. I breathed a sigh of relief when they were not turning around. Yet the sounds of Rynar were now gone... No doubt just as scared of the human's war machines as I was... With my attention shifting back to Pippy, I opened my hand again for him. Doing my best to offer a broken smile before pointing to my open palm.
Several long seconds pass as he puts two hands on his injured leg. I winced and looked down, trying to convey I was ashamed... It seemed my actions worked. And soon, he was scooting closer, albeit with hesitation. Gingerly I brought my hand closer and wrapped my fingers ever so carefully around his frame. Cupping Pippy in my hand, I then shakily rose onto my feet. Pippy was shaken; his eyes met my own, a mixture of anger, fear, and pain...
As I gathered myself, I slowly began walking without direction or any way to tell where could be a safe place. Pippy in hand, and a good helping of optimism in my heart. I took comfort in thinking that I could contact UAF and get a pickup. But before then, I need to get Pippy to his people... My armor wasn't doing me any favors other than taking weight off my injured leg. But it was better than confronting an angry Rynar without armor... Right?

Their armor, both infantry and vehicles, is designed to deal with heat-based weaponry. Kinetic weapons that are heavily armor-piercing, with the power we have, are dangerous. Check this Lil clip out! So if those planes decided to fire, there would be little to no warning, and the damage would be devastatingly fatal...

Don't forget, the GAU-8 uses Depleted Uranium ammo in combat. It's about 1.7 times as dense as lead and when it passes through armor, some of the Uranium is shaved off and becomes airborne. In an armored vehicle that means the crew breaths in radio active contamination, in the case of the Rynar they would suffer from radiation contamination and possibly sickness. The same would also be the case with the Armor Piercing Fin Stabilized Discarding Sabot rounds used as the kinetic energy penetrator round on many Main Battle Tanks. That's one of the only things that bothered me about Hetzer's stories, human possession of radioactive material shouldn't have been a surprise, because we had been shooting it at the Rynar.
I think more so the idea of nuclear bombs had been a surprise. I might be wrong in this... But I believe that in UTO they had banned nuclear bombs altogether. So seeing humanity with it was a bit jarring, especially since they used it on their own planet. Either way, Alice would be terrified from seeing human planes passing by
If I'm remembering I don't think any of it was a suprise by the time Rynar/UTO had arrived on planet. It's what drew the Rynar to invade. Nuclear bombs, unless this changed slightly from when I read Integration, where an unresearched tech of a redundant field of science. Research into nuclear fission being a mere scientific curiousity with the prevelance of Erestal. There might also have been a vague allusion to the idea fissile materials such as uranium aren't that common in the Galaxy. Googling it apparently all of Earth's uranium was likely produced in one or more Supa Nova explosions billions of years ago, maybe the merger of two neutron stars.
The read was amazing X3 I love how you make human planes make everyone, UTO and Rynar alike, become silent with fear. While obviously way less advanced than any alien ship, those tiny jets still carry enough firepower to kill an entire platoon, and I doubt that non-human troops count with anything accurate enough to shoot them out of the sky.
Also, good luck apologizing to Pippy after literally burning his leg off ;w; That must hurt a lot!
