I've never really been able to be myself, let alone proud about it in regard to my being gay because of my super homophobic and violent family. When it comes to my sexuality I, for a long time, was always trying to deny it or fix it. As time went on, I eventually accepted I was gay and I wouldn't be able to change that, but still kept it hidden away, sort of like playing pretend. It was when I first started on the path to accepting myself as I am that I met Arkan, and since then he's been with me. Supporting me in each step I take. I wouldn't be where or even who I am now without him and his acceptance of me, the real me. And one day I truly do hope to be able to say that I'm proud, to hold that flag with my beloved beside me, parade or not. To be ourselves, together, without fear.
