I made this pocketwatch for my mother's birthday who is a huge fan of the game: Return Of The Obra Dinn.
If you know me, I'm not satisfied with making props that's only function is to look nice. So I had the crazy idea of having a working pocketwatch with a metal lid.
I had designed a 3D printer for a class and had just finished building it. So I thought i'd put it to good use.
I purchased a normal pocketwatch, removed the lid, modeled a new lid, 3D printed that lid, used that 3D print to make a cast, filled that cast with liquid aluminum, then meticulously tooled it so it would fit on the pocketwatch.
then I hand painted the logo of the game on the box the watch came in. (which took way longer than i thought it would)
Was it worth the time? probably not. But i'm pretty proud of it. and it made my mom happy so i'm satisfied.
Also please forgive all the trash on my table.
