This is a bit of an exaggerated hypothetical case, but the feelings of the artist is still the same.
I think this is the result of someone in an odd position like myself -- mostly known for drawing silly comics, but my own personal interests are more on the serious side of art. I dislike drawing cutesy art when it's not in the format of comics where the narrative is more important than the quality of the art.
I don't blame people though for assuming that I like drawing cutesy stuff based on what they see on the surface level.
Anyway, this comic is just for a bit of a laugh, and maybe a little cathartic for myself.

There are two camps of thought when it comes to commissions it seems. Some people want to see an artist's interpretation of the character, while others want to see an accurate portrayal of the character. An artist's goal is usually to try and achieve both, but sometimes it can be difficult to do that.
The fact that you added “LOL” and “XD” makes me feel targeted. Lol
I know this comic is satire but you don’t understand. I use XD and lol way too often in convos with comms or with friends
the reason I add Lols and XD is to not sound rude or entitled. I sometimes feel like I ask too much or I push the boundaries even if it’s not even close to exaggeration. I want to keep the conversation positive and light, and not make the artist feel bad.
But that’s just, is it the same for others?

I absolutely *hate* when I tell someone that 'hey I can't change the linework again after this, are you sure that you're happy?' and then an hour later once your done lining everything they want a new jacket or something on the character. Like...I warned you, please don't do this to me.
I always try to have a clear idea of what I want before I go getting a commission, and try to take the artist's style into account when I do (though color saturation is not something I am familiar enough with to judge on ^^; possibly more. But I won't ask for someone who normally does a rather cartoony art style for a more realistic looking piece, as a good example)
and I always feel awful when asking an artist to change something that I don't like about it
Makes me feel like I'm gonna wind up on r/choosingbeggers or something

And thats why i try to do two things. One, Make sure i know what i want and try to keep any editing that might need to be done to smaller more important details. and Two. Make sure its something the artist might want to do, if its not their interest or thing i try to adjust so we can both appreciate the product.
i feel like im too picky with art sometimes.
'^^ given how infrequently im able to get commissions these days I guess I just want to make sure they're right. I still worry im being a pain and I can't always tell where the limit is.
I'm always self concious about it and IDK what the right thing to do is '^^

I had a brief chuckle after seeing that your name is Blaze.
And yeah that's perfectly understandable. I guess it's always helpful when artists are able to clearly convey the limits in terms of edits in their ToS. Otherwise it can be hard to tell how much edits is too much.

mhh.
also, its been a while since ive commente don anything of yours now i think about it. dont think ive said a whole lot this year in general really.
can't honestly remember the last time we talked at all, but this pic definitely struck a nerve with that whole just... i'm in discussions with someone about comms now and he says its fine but i still feel super embarrassed about it each time i see something that doesnt look right.
at least in my case im not asking for the entire premise of the picture to be changed i guess. "monsterous dragon" into "cute dragon" and all that. it's usually more just things like posing and expressions. i still feel bad about it though...
would probably be easier if i could articulate my thoughts into words better to begin with

Oh i can defenetly relate to this. A good compromise i usually get with my customers is that i will agree to do all the changes they want ( within reason though, of course ), if they let me do a version of their commission that i am happy with to post in my own gallery. ( this usually applies for small changes, of course ).
Never really understood why some people do this. When I commission an artist, I tend to think about that artist's style, what parts of the idea I have will it exemplify best. An artist with a lot of attention to detail is great for highlighting more serious parts of a character. An artist that frequents "chibi" style is perfect for goofy and silly pieces. I love seeing how an artist sees my character, that's part of the fun for me.
I understand totally -_-''' people ask one thing and when it's done change it all or add a millions of things with it without thinking that can change the price of the commission or you need to do something else so saying all those things in the first message would have be a thousand time better.
