It depends, but my family is generally on the side of shoes on. There are exceptions of course. I personally change into slippers when I visit my parents' house. And they of course wouldn't want people tracking wet or muddy shoes or sneakers in a house. But they also wouldn't request anyone with clean shoes on a normal day do anything but wipe their feet before entering the house, and in fact my family in general gets a little offended at households that insist on removing shoes when entering regardless of the weather outside.
