This is nothing to do with my writing but something of a more personal nature. I grew up living next to a rather large rock quarry where my dad worked. It was situated beside a large dormant volcanic cone in the Auckland isthmus in NZ. Quite an amazing place, my brother and I would wander around playing in the quarry after hours and on weekends - it was such an amazing place to grow up as a kid and I harbour a lot of very fond memories of it.
I just wish that digital cameras had been around when I was a kid, the pictures I would have taken... but yeah, many memories of walking home at night after exploring or playing in the quarry to such sunsets and the silhouettes of crusty buildings, rusting machinery, piles of rock, the smell of diesel and grease, the sweet tang of the pine-trees that grew all over the place...
Was very much inspired by this pic: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4639955 drawn by the lovely Gasmask. Once I saw that I knew that she would be perfect for bringing some of my childhood back to me. I know we often tend to look back at our childhood through rose-tinted glasses sometimes and I am the first to admit there was a lot of hardship and pain as well as the good memories.
But it is memories like this that haunt me...
Gasmask is the wonderful artist behind this.. thank you so much, m'dear

I think most people would have little moments frozen in their memories of scenes akin to this - pivotal moments where the light was just right that stick in the mind for many years. Sounds like you have something similar. Treasure them, they are great for remembering back to as you get older when you want to briefly experience that feeling of being a kid again.
