You say this like real thought is put into this comic. It's been written on the fly for most of its run.

Think of it this way, regardless of how durable they are Crests are a limited resource. And there are non-conventional means that they do fall to (a bullet is quite conventional in this regard).

Where as Knights are effectively a dime a dozen in comparison, and are trained to deal with the unconventional attacks that Crests are susceptible to.

It's a layered defense approach. The flak to deal with the nuclear missile before it hits its target, as it were.
