From the same still life shoot with
Otter_pop as the last shot.
The landscape in the back is cloth piled up on stacks of books and such.
A wrinkled shower curtain provides the sky, lit blue from one angle and orange from another, then blurred out like this, it made a rather remarkable wafting clouds effect. I wish I could claim that was intentional. I can claim that next time I do it, it will be. :)
The Yin/Yang symbol was made from aquarium gravel. I love the stuff. It's at the pet store and comes in a whole rainbow of colors. We made a cookie-cutter-like mold out of a cheesecake pan and some cardboard, set the mold over a light table, spooned gravel into the mold, then lifted the mold away.
The gravel is resting on a glass plate from an old screen door. Under that is a white silk diffuser. Under that is a piece of paper with a circle cut out of it the same size as the yin/yang pattern. And under that is the light box.
As this was a learning process, we put it together all wrong and had to lift the glass and gravel twice, once to slide the diffuser underneath, once to slide the paper under that.

I dig the Yin-Yang symbol in front of the kitty. Is it conjuring up the powers of positive and negative in order to right wrongs and wrong rights?
It's a very lovely and interesting still life you guys made! Great composition, lighting, the colors and shapes are mysterious and compelling.
