Little Tales - Listen to the Lyrics
This was Friday's comic and folks liked it so much that I thought I'd upload it here.
I caught myself humming this song for a few days and then realized what exactly I was singing. I thought it would make a silly comic since we've all been there. So here's Gen doing housework and singing the Beatles, then suddenly realizing the context of the song. (and yes, I've seen the flash animations)
This was pen and ink scanned in and comicified in Mangastudio. For more silliness, visit http://www.little-tales.com

Well gee, I realized that dark-humored ballad's content the first time I heard it as a kid. Just like the nursery rhyme about Lizzie Borden and an axe.
Here's a schoolyard ditty from my childhood:
In the meadow we will build a snowman
and we'll put Gary Gilmore inside
We'll ask, "Are you dead?" and he'll say, "No man."
So then we will just wait 'till he has died.

I've had many such "what" monents:
-A grocery store playing "Who Can It Be Now?" by Men At Work (paranoid psychotic) followed by "Alone Again Naturally" by Gilbert O'Sullivan (suicidal depression). Boy, that really makes me want to buy things. Like rat poison and kitchen knives...
-otherwise straightlaced parents singing "My Dingaling" to their kids. It's a nickname for a penis.
-And every wedding where "Every Breath You Take" is played as a dedication to the bride and/or groom. IT'S ABOUT A STALKER, YOU MORONS!!!

Try "Seasons in the Sun" by Terry Jacks. It gets included in all the '70s compilation collections. It sounds so bleeping happy when the Time/Life infomercial is on and it gets played during the vertical crawl of the list of songs. "We had joy / we had fun / we had seasons in the sun "
It's about a guy on his death-bed saying his final goodbyes!
Made me want to bust out crying the first time I heard it all the way through.

Just because I'm a picky sod... The song was originally written by Jacques Brell, a French poet/songwriter, and made popular in this country by Rod McKuen, who translated the lyrics. McKuen is probably best known as a beat poet who also featured in a few surfer/beach movies in the late 50s.
No offense intended. And you're right -- it's a dying man's final farewells, remembering the joys, the seasons in the sun, "but the stars / we could reach / were just starfish on the beach." Cool song, at least to me. And yeah, it'll make you shed a tear or two.
