" I am Talos Flintclaw of the golden field of Oreskos!"
Art of my new dnd charater by the ever amazing
. Talos is a leonin from the land of Oreskos in the plane of Theros. Son of Brimaz, the current speaker and king of Oreskos, Talos grew up learning the art of combat and strategy. Talos excelled in these arts and developed a fascination with weaponry and armor. His teachers encouraged him to become a general, but Talos declined, instead wanting to create and craft the arms his pride bore. Expecting his father to be ashamed, Brimaz was instead encouraging and praised his son for pursuing his own direction.
Talos was given lessons by the weaponsmiths and crafters of his pride. His keen senses and eye for detail developed in his training seemed to transition over well. He added artistic flourishes that surprised even him, happy to find a creative outlet. Some designs and attempts failed, but this only spurred him on to accept the challenge and come up with better gear. His dream was set to become the greatest crafter of all time and make weapons and armor that would go down in legend.
He did not spend all day making swords and shields and armor. Talos would still participate in hunts and would often venture alone for some needed solitude. On one such hunt, he ended up wandering into the territory of a hydra. The beast came upon him quickly and savagely. Talos used his training and skills to defend and escape, but it persued him to no end. A sudden strike from its tail hit him and made the leonin pass out. He would have been hydra food had someone not be observing. A colossal stone hand fell upon the hydra and crushed it while another stone hand lifted and carried Talos away.
Talos awoke in a strange cavern. His body had been bandaged and tended to. The cavern was massive and the furnashings far larger then himself. He soon met his rescuer and was quite shocked. A giant creature made of stone and earth. It had no arms, but a hundred stone hands floated around it and seemed to move at its will. Its face was like a mask and would shift features. It introduced itself as Briareus, the Hekatonchires (hundred handed giant). It had been in the area searching for ores when it came upon Talos and the Hydra. Talos thanked them profusely and asked of the ore. This is when Briareus showed them their forge and workshop. Weapons and craft of a quality and scale Talos could only dream of. Being an immortal being, Briareus had all the time in the world to hone their craft and with 50 different personalities in one body, they had many points of insight.
Talos fell to his knees and begged to be taken in as their apprentice. He expressed he wanted to become a legendary crafter and would do everything asked of him. Briareus, interested in the notion of taking on an apprentice, agreed as long as he was kept a secret. For the next year, Talos studied under the giant, having 50 teachers of supreme skill to impress. He was taught of materials from far across Theros and lands beyond that he may seek out. He was taught the giant language and their history. Most importantly, he was taught how to carve their runes and imbue his weapons with their magic. After a year, his masters were satisfied with his progress and bade him to continue to hone himself in the outside world.
Never having wanted to leave Oreskos before, Talos now felt a duty to explore the larger world and develop his craft. He spoke with his father about his wish and Brimaz agreed that he may go with his blessing. The next day, Talos left the golden fields of his home to become the greatest blacksmith of all time.
