Erenmorian Front, Northern Shaghal, c. 785AW(B&W)
Crawling barrage ahead of them, a group of (N)Shaghali Infantrymen prepare to go 'over the top.'
Late in the Erenmorian-Shaghali war, this image shows the gradual retaking of territories lost to the Fennecs of Erenmor after their initial unexpected use of mustard gas. The infantry in the foreground are equipped with the standard uniform-of-line at the time: full facial mask with chest-line respirator, Western-War era helmets and shoulders (with iron plating for machine-gunners), button-sealed layered uniforms to protect from gas, and wet-set puttees to seal the top of the boot from the heavier gasses used by Erenmor towards the end of the conflict. The two seen here are manning a cloth-belt fed, water-cooled Pd-81 machine gun (radiator can behind the gentleman on the right) and a Pn-68 pattern medium-pull bolt-action rifle, variant in hand with a 5 round magazine. The jackal on the right is motioning for the soldiers not in the image to advance over the line.
In the middle-ground is seen a scattered barbed-wire line, a shell-hole breech being taken advantage of by a second generation Tc-1 tank, being supported by infantry, and following a crawling barrage of heavy artillery.
In the distance can be seen the gear-tooth works of the Erenmorian trenchline and several (with one unlucky, though crew parachuting) artillery observation balloons, as well as a squadron of Shaghali biplanes sweeping the trench and wreaking havoc among the balloons. Further distant can be seen a squadron of Erenmorian aircraft moving to intercept the adventurous Shaghali airmen, outnumbering them 5 to 4.
I would hate to be these guys. Them Fennecs fight dirty, gas. Humph!
