In Cloudsdale, a young pegasus would fly around the city to try and find something interesting. The Pegasus was named Inky Shader, she had a gray coat with a blue-green mane along with maroon-colored eyes. The mare had a vial of ink and quill for a cutie mark, symbolizing her enjoyment of art.
While she enjoyed her passion, Inky was busy looking for a job. She knew she couldn’t start off as a famous artist right away, but at the same time, she didn’t want to be stuck at some job like a waitress where she’d have to deal with rude customers. Inky would fly around Cloudsdale to try and find any place that would be opening up.
Eventually, Inky would find her way into Cloudsdale’s bank, which was pretty quiet then, so the young mare walked to one of the ponies at one of the desks to see if they were hiring. “Excuse me,” Inky said, “Do you have any job openings?”
The pony behind the counter tilted her head in confusion. “We aren’t looking for new workers,” the mare responded. Inky felt a little depressed seeing that she failed to get another job.
“Okay. I’ll just search somewhere else.”
“If you’re looking for a job, there could be some in Ponyville. You can try your luck there.”
“Alright, thanks for the offer.” Inky left the bank as she let out a depressed sigh and walked out of the building.
There had to be some kind of job that was right for her, but everyone she didn’t meet the requirements, it was too complex for her, or it just simply didn’t feel right to her. She wished for a job that could fit her hobby of art. Suddenly, she stepped on something and looked to see it looked to be a notebook, with a pen clipped onto it.
Inky was perplexed by this and decided to pick it up. Opening up, she could see a couple of sketches of dragons, lightning bolts, wolves, and various other things. She could there were pages of these sketches and the mare was finding these pretty cool. Inky decided to hold onto this until she found the original owner as she decided to head to Ponyville.
Just before Inky could take flight, she suddenly felt her wings go limp, making her faceplant on the clouds. When Inky looked back, she could see her wings hanging limply. She tried to shake them awake, but they only shook with her movement, which was a little concerning. Then Inky noticed all pegasi were no longer flying, instead, they all walked. Not a single one was using their wings.
Before asking what everyone was doing, Ingrid could feel a stinging pain coming from her arms. It kind of felt like a couple of needles were poking as she saw something staining her coat. On her right arm, a red image of a phoenix slowly inked onto her coat. On her left arm, blue ink started staining her arm into what looked like a seapony, but the top half looked… Different. The top half looked like a creature she had never seen before.
“What is that thing?” Inky asked. She tried rubbing them off, but the ink felt like a part of her body now. She looked back at her wings, which she couldn’t feel at all as they were still limp. However, they would move on their own as they curled around her chest and started turning into cloth. This cloth formed into a t-shirt that showed a dragon on the front of it, which was shocking to Inky.
“Whoa! This shirt is… Kind of cool. I love those dragons.” Ingrid suddenly felt lightheaded as she remembered she needed to get to Ponyville. She grabbed her journal and pencil before she tried running across the clouds, which looked to increase in size and hardness.
Inky ran for a little bit until she saw a small glass building on the side of a row of clouds. It looked to have a bench under a roof with a timetable on one of the walls. One of them was almost the current time, albeit a few minutes later.
Almost a minute later, Inky saw a large horseless car pull up beside her. The door opened up and a couple of ponies walked out. Instinct told Ingrid to step on board and looked towards the stallion in the front seat. He had his hooves on a wheel in front of him. “Ms, are you going to pay for the ride?” he asked.
“Oh, um, sorry,” Ingrid responded. She quickly tossed some bits into a coin counter as she went to find herself a seat. She didn’t pay too much attention to the ponies riding with her and instead tried to see if anything else was different about herself.
She looked back at her tail and saw it wasn’t moving. It might explain the numbness she felt from it all of a sudden. Inky then jumped as her tail suddenly wrapped around her hips and changed in the material.
Buttons and a zipper quickly formed around the mare’s hips with the materials just reaching the top of her knees. Inky was a bit surprised to see her tail had quickly formed into a pair of shorts. They felt pretty comfortable and to Inky they felt essential.
Looking up, the mare saw that every single pony on the bus has some form of clothing on. She had seen them wear suits and dresses to special events, and sometimes a pony wearing a hat, but she’d never seen this many ponies wearing regular clothes.
Inky knew that her clothes used to be parts of her body so could the same thing be for these ponies? She tried thinking about this until she noticed her mane got into her face. She brushed it to the side but something didn’t seem right about it. Inky looked around for something reflective until she saw an old mare using a mirror.
“Excuse me, ma’am, can I borrow your mirror for a second?” Inky asked. The old mare nodded and gave Inky the mirror, allowing Inky to see her bangs were still blue, but the part above them looked a little darker.
This was a little confusing to Inky, but upon closer inspection, it looked like this dark part was spreading. While her bangs remained the same, it looked like the rest of her mane slowly started turning black.
Inky touched her mane and could actually feel it, so it must’ve been real, her mane was losing its color. Not only that, but it looked like her mane was changing in style too. The bangs shifted around to cover up one of her eyes, surprising the mare. The sides of her mane also started to get cut as they slowly turned black. She kept watching, until…
“Excuse me deer, this is my stop,” the old mare said. Inky then looked out the window and could see that they were now in Ponyville. She gave the old mare back her mirror and she as well as a couple of other passengers, disembarked. Inky was worried, her mane was probably still changing and she couldn’t see it.
After prancing in place for a second, she quickly ran to the nearest store, hoping to see her reflection in a window. The mare’s mane was slowly getting pulled back into her skull, not even reaching her shoulders at this point. Eventually, Inky found a window and could see there were still some parts of her original blue hair left.
She thought that her bangs were still their original color but upon closer inspection, she could see her blue bangs were actually a hair dye. The rest of her mane was now looking like a pitch-black night. Turning her head a few times to try and look at her mane from multiple angles, Inky saw that the left side of her mane was being buzzed off to make her mane even shorter.
Eventually, there was no bit of her original mane left, and now she was left with this shorter pixie-style hairdo. Inky couldn’t help but keep staring at what just happened. First, her wings turned into a new shirt, then her tail became her shorts, and now even her mane. This was a huge hit to her emotional state.
“I can’t believe my mane is gone,” she sighed. Inky brushed the left side of her head, feeling the shaved hairs. She gave a pouty face as she wanted her old mane back. Looking down, Inky saw the strange binder and pen she discovered in Cloudsdale. None of this strangeness happened until Inky picked these up. How could these two regular-looking items do this to her though?
Reaching down to pick the two items up, Inky noticed that her hoof was starting to bend in a weird was. It looked like a ball of putty being deformed. Then Inky could see a bit of her hoof was starting to split apart at five points. These points slowly started growing like roots on a tree and Inky found she was able to bend them.
Inky couldn’t believe that now her hooves were changing too. It happened to both of her forehooves. However, what confused her was that her gray coat was fading on the tip of her new digits. Instead, it looked like they were stained with something brown like chocolate and it looked like it was spreading.
The new growths looked like to have some kind of blunt claws as this new skin slowly crawled up to her wrist. Despite not having these digits until now, Inky used them to touch the parts of her arms that were going from gray to brown. “How is this acontecendo? Espere o que? What did I say?” Inky felt like her voice sounded a little different after speaking the unknown language.
She couldn’t describe what it sounded like, but it was some kind of accent. Inky touched her throat as she didn’t realize she stood up on two legs. It was a bit rare for a pony to do this, even for a few seconds, but here Inky was doing it with no issue and she didn’t even notice. What she did notice was this new skin color spreading across different parts of her body.
Her hind hooves would be given extra support by stretching outwards to make her legs get a bit of an L shape. Inky didn’t notice that new footwear was fitting itself onto her new feet, giving her a couple of inches to her height. A pair of gray booths with high heels fit themselves onto Inky, which went up to just below her knees. While she couldn’t see it, more of this new skin was slowly crawling up her legs, just like her arms.
As the mare watched her new skin kept growing as she felt some new words entering her head. “O que está acontecendo comigo? And why do I keep talking like this.” Inky rubbed her throat as she kept hearing herself talk with an accent. “I can’t be speaking in Portuguese. Wait, how do I know that I’ve… Eu só falei na maior parte da minha vida.”
Inky felt like she had a bit of a headache as a second language as English was becoming something she didn’t speak as much as her first one. Inky tried to take a minute to think and looked back at her new journal and checked a couple of sketches inside of it. She started to remember a couple of things as she didn’t pay attention to the dark skin that was still crawling up her body.
Ingrid’s head was one of the last remaining bits of her pony self left. It wouldn’t last long as her dark skin reached her mouth. Inky’s muzzle quickly shrank away into her face as her nose moved to the middle of her face. Meanwhile, her mouth would have a couple of fangs grow in it to help Inky chew meat more. Her ears would slip down to the sides of her head, becoming rounder and her sensitivity going down.
Inky’s eyes would be the final thing to change going from a deep burgundy to a simple brown. With her eye color no different, the new skin had fully taken over Inky’s body as there was no pony part of her left. It wasn’t just physically changing now, but mentally Inky wouldn’t remember anything about Equestria.
Instead, she remembered having origins in Brazil. She moved from there to America at a young age to try and start a future career. She had taken an interest in tattoo artwork, seeing the various designs that people were able to pull off. This was such a curious interest for the young woman that she got tattoos of her favorite creatures and her sketch journal.
Tattoos weren’t the only interest that she had a liking for. She had a liking for soccer or football back in her home country. The amount of fun she had back when she was a child kicking the ball around with other kids. She wished she could’ve gone back to those days, but she was still young and found a fun career for herself.
Not only was making tattoo sketches, but Ingrid also had a habit of dying her hair and showing it off to her friends or people at work. She had several different color combos, hairstreaks, blue hair, multicolors to even rainbow-colored hair.
Ingrid then regained her train of thought and looked around. She had no idea how long she was out and now was worried about being late. Quickly, she grabbed her stuff and ran off to the tattoo shop. Thankfully, it looked like she arrived right on time, much to her relief.
“Ai, Ingrid,” called a voice. Ingrid looked to see a father muscular man with some tattoos on his arm looking towards her. “Almost thought you weren’t going to show up,” he said.
“Sorry about that,” Ingrid apologized. “Had a bit of an issue on the bus. It should be okay now, right?”
“Yeah, not going to chew you out for being a few seconds late. Besides, we haven’t had too many customers at this point.” Ingrid felt relieved as she took a minute to look at her sketchbook before any customers walked in.
A few minutes later, somebody walked into the shop and looked around. “Um, excuse me,” she said, “I’m here to try and get a tattoo.”
Ingrid heard her walk and placed down her sketchbook to approach her. “Welcome,” Ingrid said, “What kind of design would you like to get today?”
“Hmm, I was thinking about something… Equestrian.”
“Equestrian?” Ingrid thought about this for a moment before she went back to her sketchbook for what could be good for her new customer. She found a sketch of a pegasus and then looked back at her customer. “Where would you like your tattoo to be located?”
“I was thinking low on my back,” the woman responded.
“Oh, that’s a good location. Just lie down on the chair and we’ll get you started.” The woman listened to Ingrid, lying on the table with her back up in the air. Ingrid studied the design that she had wanted and soon got her pen. “Now, just sit still, and let’s see what we can do.” The woman stood still as Ingrid began her work to bring her artwork to life.
