The following is an examination of Bimbofication, its advancement, and its consequences.
Stage 1: Here we observe that bimbofication is slowly asserting itself through subtle changes in perception and in rare moments behavior. This stage is most like a recurring daydream, with moments of spacey detachment. No physical changes yet, but new habits form and appetites change. These are the last days of ordinary life.
Stage 2: This stage is the growing realization that something is happening with a refusal to come to terms with that. The body starts to change and subtle differences in behavior are adding up, and appetites become great cravings. More effort is made to think so the mental landscape persists with a little more deterioration in substance. The overall mood is more lighthearted and at a point before brain drain sets in.
Stage 3: Here we see some of the last lucid moments before the brain drain sets in and the pink fog flows in. Important things are kept while desire outpaces the ability to control it. Body changes accelerate and the new behavior creates conflict with self-image and there is a fight to rationalize or get away from this tension. As we progress, the inner mind and the thoughts within it become more exaggerated, superficial, disjointed and obscure. These are the last flickers of intelligence before we enter the post-intellectual stages.
Post-Intellectual Stages
Stage 4: Stage 4 is where the desires fully absorb into the conscious mind. The physical changes reach their endpoint and the body-image has been severely compromised. Continuous thought and the ability to rationalize gives way to desire and suggestibility. It is the beginning of a gradual process where old traits vanish entirely and the mind becomes more malleable through suggestion, simplification, and disjointing.
Stage 5: A stage marked by loss of worldview and competence. A growing internal bliss between moments of manic licentiousness. Changes to the body become irreversible, and the original body-image is consumed by the new one. More extreme disjointing, dumbing down and suggestibility can give way to more lucid moments. The unknown and forgotten may seem familiar. Thoughts are often forgotten or interrupted only moments after conception.

Stage 5's talk of "becoming irreversible" implies the earlier stages were curable.
Would some people ask their doctor to cure them without reversing the effects of Stage 2? Do some people intentionally contract it with the supervision of a doctor in hopes of safely acquiring the body and mental effects of this stage?

Here's my thoughts
Stages 1-3 are reversible entirely with some effort.
Post-Intellectual stages 4 and 5 are reversible, but only partially and with more difficulty. Stage 6 is completely final and irreversible
Some do, in fact intentionally expose themselves to it in order to enjoy milder effects.
