I have offered to build and install the sign myself, but we're not allowed one of these in the office.
So instead I've had to build a reputation as 'The guy who will not hesitate to swear at you and ignore your request if it's deemed too stupid to spend time on'.
People don't ask me to do much anymore.

something tells me that this would not have meaningfully contributed to a higher number on the counter at my previous employer...
"Hey, I have a cute project, probably won't take more than ten minutes or so. Y'see, these guys have a multi-million line code in FORTRAN, and want it written in COBOL. It shouldn't take you long to convert it, right?"

I remember my stint as a graphic design intern at a small programming company. I know first hand what this feels like. So much wasted time on trying to make images that could only exist in their minds, having managers trying to be designers and telling me to make it happen, and being given zero legitimate resources to accomplish anything I was supposed to because anything I was supposed to do was perpetually "on the backburner". That got so frustrating at times, to the point there were periods of time where I had nothing to do because absolutely no resources had been alocated to me at all. It took months before I was even able to begin the project I had originally brought on to do, nearing the end of the internship, and I ended up making a POS because I'd been given no resources with which to work with, making do with a free video editing software thats only redeeming quality was its crash recovery, which was actually quite good, seeing how often it crashed.
So, yeah, I feel ya.
