Reminds me of the "City on the Edge" movie from the Godzilla Netflix anime movies. In that MechaGodzilla wanted to turn people into copies of itself with nanobots. Not like this, obviously, but it reminded me of it. XD

Yep. It's the second movie in the Godzilla Earth trilogy. "Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle". Not the best trilogy, admittedly, but it had a lot of good ideas.
