8.5” x 11”
Watercolor and Sepia Ink
on Cold Press 140lbs Watercolor Paper.
The trim is stained glass; a spiritual symbol refraction of light and color, the vine is a representation of morning glory ivy (though it looks not thing like it), the gryphon is the avatar of the Greek sun god Apollo, the purple clouds are the mist of night, and the rest of the piece it a morning sun rise.
It took me longer to complete this then I would have liked, but my lack of confidence with watercolors was at play and took great effort for me to just sit down a face this piece. Through most of the work I kept trying to use watercolors like acrylics (a bad habit that doesn't work well), then about two thirds through this piece I had a beautiful Eureka! moment about this medium. Everything came together and I “Understood”... While I am still not a Master of the Medium, I think I “Get It” now...
