Oh boy here i go rambling again lmaooo
Well SFM and Blender are very different software i do have a bit of experience with SFM as I've used it a lot when i was younger
SFM is very easy to learn the basics and just make shit. You don't have to worry about modeling, UV's, Texturing, Shaders. You just get a bunch of maps, models and stuff already prepackaged and you just throw it into a scene and make some basic scenes.
Blender however has a learning curve of a fucking 90 degree cliff face It's super hard to learn the basics and when you got the basics down your renders still don't really look that good because you also have to worry about a shit ton of more advanced topics.
However here's the big thing: SFM is not made to do anything other than the basics. if you wanna do something slightly advanced you'll have to go through hours of jumping through hoops to make something specific and then days fixing any bugs that might pop up. It's a idk like +10 year old software that hasn't been updated since release, want a specific model in your render? oops better learn all the file formats and how to modify VTF's and VMF's. and prepare for any bugs or problems that might bring like oopsie daisy you mistyped one character in a text file now nothing works.
Blender however is made for advanced shit. You tell it to do a liquid simulation and it just does. you tell it to make a planet, it just does no problem. you tell it to do all kinds of whacky and advanced shit and it just does it. Ofc you'll need to know how to use all the tools and how everything works and that's BRUTAL to learn but once you do you'll be a powerhouse of amazing looking art.
TLDR:
SFM: Very easy to get into Can just jump in and make something nice within a week of practice. Can't handle anything more than a simple scene though impossible to work with if you want to make a tad more complex effect (Also might break very easily and give you headaches for days)
Blender: Extremely hard to get into. Might take years of practice to start getting semi decent stuff. but once you got it down You'll be a powerhouse of art and it can do any extremely advanced effects without problem (Also open source and has thousands of addons that can customize your experience and add new tools)
