Long ago, during the age of Fuedal Japan, there lived a shogun by the name of Takahiro Sato. Takahiro had amassed much renown throughout his life, so much so that now he now owned a large plot of land that was bestowed on him by the emperor himself. As thanks for Takahiro’s years of heroic service. Takahiro ran the land very efficiently, placing a sizeable village on top of it, and several farms. Everything was grand in this village.
For a while, at least.
As Takahiro grew older, and relished his retirement, something began to change in the once-selfless hero. He began to take more and more from his people. Financial taxations, food, even basic possessions that he liked the look of. Takahiro’s greed only seemed to grow more the less and less his people had. The destitute peasants of his village collectively shared bitter tears for their lives, wondering what had happened to the great, noble shogun that had defended the honor of Japan so many times before…
Eventually, one of the peasants, the village head who’s name was Kujikawa, could no longer idly attempt to live his life while he and everyone else suffered.
Kujikawa lived a somewhat better life, being the village head, he had a small place in Takahiro’s mansion. Of course, this was nothing compared to the boundless luxury that Takahiro lived in, but it was something…though that still didn’t deter Takahiro’s wrath from Kujikawa, and soon, Kujikawa was nearly just as destitute as the rest of the village.
Tonight, on a bright, full moon, Kujikawa steeled his nerves and prepared to march into Takahiro’s quarters and ask for a little mercy…
…And if that didn’t work, then Kujikawa had something else up his sleeves.
Kujikawa took a deep breath and slowly slid open the door to Kujikawa’s throne room and stepped in, making sure to take his sandals off as he did so. He needed to appear as respectful as possible when making this request.
Takahiro (Who was sitting on his throne reading a book when Kujikawa waked in) looked up at Kujikawa with annoyance and contempt.
“Ugh, what do you want with me, peasant?” Takahiro bemoaned as he shut his book.
Kujikawa nervously got onto his knees in front of Takahiro.
“Oh, noble shogun. I come requesting less taxation on all fronts. We are very poor, and constantly struggling to pay your taxes…” Kujikawa begged. This was met with a loud, mirthless snicker from Takahiro.
“You dare approach me with such a request, peasant? I provide you all with homes, luscious land, and every bit of food that you could ever need, and you expect me to believe that you cannot reimburse me one slight bit?!” Takahiro boomed.
“Y-Your taxes are bleeding us dry, my lord. Soon we will be unable to pay them in general!”
“Then that is your issue! If you cannot work hard enough to earn your place here, then you will be sent away to find some other plot of gravel to live your worthless lives!”
Kujikawa breathed deeply…knowing what he had to do now…
Kujikawa stood up, eliciting a rage-filled reaction. “You DARE STAND in my presence you-!” Takahiro tried to shout out, only to have his entire body stiffen up. “Wh-What…?”
Kujikawa had his hand held out to Takahiro, and began to mumble something under his breath…a magic spell…
“This and every night, you will transform into a feline beast and wreak havoc on the luxury you hold so dear.” Kujikawa recited, stepping backwards.
“Wh-What are you doing to me you pile of filth?!” Takahiro screamed.
Takahiro’s fingers began to ache as his fingernails began to grow, sharpening into steel-sharp claws. The flesh of his fingers began to burn horribly as his claws fused with his fingers.
“AAAAAGH?! WHAT IS THIS?!” Takahiro screamed as scratchy fur began to sprout on his arms. It was primarily orange, but had black stripes. It quickly grew all over his body, forcing out his human hair.
Takahiro’s teeth began to ache as they all lengthened, growing sharp as a sword. His canine teeth especially. Afterwards, his upper lip split in half as if cut with a knife, and several stringy whiskers began to grow out of his lip, feeling like several needles were ripping through his skin. Takahiro unwillingly let out a growl as his nose began to reform into a feline shape, and his ears grew out into a circular shape, leaving Takahiro with a completely tiger-like head.
Takahiro felt a very strange urge after that, and began to rake his claws through his kimono, tearing it to pieces. As the scraps of fabric fell off his body, he clutched his head and tensed his body up in an attempt to resist the changes, but it was no use.
His aging body began to swell up with muscle mass, and as his legs began to grow, his feet began to change. Four of his toes on each foot began to meld into one another, leaving the middle unchanged. Not for long though, as Takahiro’s feet began to extend, his toes growing further, and the toenails growing into massive claws just like his fingernails. A loud CRRRAK! went off in his legs as the bones began to snap apart. Takahiro fell to all-fours as he screamed in agony. The bones in his legs began to reform shortly after, which was slightly less painful, but still hurt like hell. It was like a heightened growing pain.
Takahiro clawed his way back to his now paws, and found that he was now digitigrade. He tried to curse at Kujikawa, to scream boundess obscenities at him, but all that Takahiro was able to muster were beastial growls.
Takahiro’s spine began to burn next, like someone was reaching into it with their bare hands and pulling it out. In a way, it was being pulled out, as a long, thinly-furred tail began to slither its way out of Takahiro’s lower back.
At this point, Kujikawa ran away, as by this state in the monster’s transformation, its mind was close to breaking, and Kujikawa didn’t want to be caught in the crossfire of the beast’s rampage.
Takahiro let out a loud, haunting yowl as he fell to his knees. All the Weretiger could focus on was food…it was hungry…it wanted to hunt, it wanted to destroy…
It wanted to kill…
It let out a mighty roar before getting back to its paws and crashing through the door of the throne room. It began to run all throughout the manor of Takahiro, cutting down every decoration it saw, and tearing down every wall and door in its wake. Every servant that was unfortunate enough to cross its path was devoured before they even had a chance to react, leaving behind a mere puddle of blood and bones. It didn’t take long for everyone in the manor to become nothing more than the Weretiger’s next meal, and once it had slaughtered everyone, it turned its attention towards the kitchen. Once it had bounded into it, it immediately turned the luxurious kitchen into little more than a room containing broken crockery and empty, smashed containers of food. After that, the Weretiger let out another roar of anger at the fact it had no more food left.
But luckily for it, another meal would soon come.
A mob of angry villagers had decided tonight that enough was enough, and began to storm the manor. They set it ablaze and began to tear down everything in sight, shouting wishes of death upon the horrible Takahiro.
Unfortunately for them, Takahiro was no longer home.
The Weretiger followed the scent of fresh meat until it found the crowd, and savagely began to rend each and every member of it. No matter how hard the peasants fought back, no matter what weapons they used, nothing stopped the beast. Even blazing torches only made the monster angrier, and once the entire crowd was dead, the Weretiger stood in the middle of the crumbling, burning mansion, and let out a deafening roar…a warning to all those who may cross paths with it… then it ran out of the burning building and turned its ravenous fury on the village itself, quickly and hungrily slaughtering every remaining villager like pigs before laying waste to their houses…
The horrid monster’s rampage lasted until midnight, when it finally seemed to get its fill…and simply began to wander around the rubble of the village for the rest of the night…
Eventually, the morning sun would vanquish the horrible night, and the Weretiger began to revert. Its claws shrank back into dull fingernails, it shed all of its fur, its tail retracted into its body, its paws returned to a plantigrade structure before flattening back out into human feet, and its head slowly began to lose its tiger-like traits until it was back to just being Takahiro…
Takahiro began to hyperventilate as he looked upon the destruction he caused last night, then he turned to look upon the smoldering ruin that was once his manor, and let out a might cry of sorrow, falling to his knees.
“That traitor…that worthless worm…! Kujikawa!” Takahiro cried out. He didn’t recall seeing that waste of air at all last night after he turned…
“He did this to me! He ruined my life!” Takahiro stood back up, and made it his life’s mission to hunt down Kujikawa no matter what it took, no matter how long it would take, Takahiro would find him and kill him…and he would slaughter every meaningless peasant in his way to do it!
As for Kujikawa himself…his whereabouts after the massacre were not known to anyone, and some say that he still hides from Takahiro to this very day…and the Weretiger still roars at the night sky…endlessly searching for the source of its curse.
