It feels like It's been a really, really, long time since I updated Moldy's look in any "official" capacity, and after deliberately overdosing him on Handsome Boy Pills for several months, he's looking better than ever! (I think so, at least)

Not a growth, the character is a slime mold-like organism with some limited shape-changing capabilities who has grown to look like a gryphon person, imitating the species of at least one of the scientists who found or created him. (Sort of like how Odo from Star Trek DS9 imitates the appearance of a Bajoran) Externally, however, he's like a regular person and isn't slimy nor covered in mold nor otherwise particularly gross by common standards!
Curses, I've been tricked into talking about my characters!
And same, I think the ability to change one's form is really cool, but I especially like when a there's a "cooldown period" to it so one would have to live with that form for a while before they're able to change again, as opposed to just constantly transforming on a whim (not that there's necessarily anything wrong with that, I just like the former one better)

Yeah, that's a nice way to do it, to make it so you have some of that 'oh I've TFed and am stuck' feeling, which is a staple of other TF fiction, where the subject is changed via some accident or somesuch. But then a limited shifter can just wait it out and not be saddled with a new, life-changing form.
