Higanbana is the flower of remembrance
Higanbana blooms at the end of September, when the dead are traditionally honored on the Buddhist holiday of Khingan. The name of the holiday is translated from Japanese as "the other shore" or "paradise of the pure land". The "earthly world" or "this shore" is called the Shigan.
