I had that happen once, and they forced me to take off my head, escorted me to my car, and asked for my ID. A few months later, I got clearing from the main security and informed them that we weren't advertising for anything, just goofing off and taking pictures. They were cool about it.

He tried the "take off the mask right now, you're not moving until you do" routine. I explained to him that the head would not be coming off in public view for the purpose of character preservation, but we'd be more than happy to return to my vehicle to 'pop'. He followed us to the door and we chatted about the security policies, etc. When he realized that we weren't going to be asshats about it, or make trouble, he relaxed and revealed how ridiculous he thought the security policies actually were. Security is usually pretty cool at the malls if you're not a smartass.
