Empires at Sea: Set Sail (Opening Montage)
Ok, here is the Final Version of my Main Theme for a game i wanted to design.
This is the opening montage to Empires at Sea, Set Sail
I was able to finish it with the help of a good friend Nick Powell.
He helped me greatly with the counter melody and some other finer points to my crappy WIP. To be honest, his work outdid mine and all that was left of my design was the actual melody. But, we have done things in the past where is was the exact opposite. So both him and I would like to wish everyone a happy Summer Solstice and to enjoy this piece!

Okay, I taught music and the fine arts for 31 years, and your piece definitely is up there with most "Professional" writers and musicians. I wish you well, my friend. I may ask you what you used in the way of music programs (VST et al) to compose this amazing piece. I am so curious about that.
I composed full score, always starts with paper and pencil.
I then moved it into Finale 2006 which i had gotten as a gift years ago.
After that, i exported it into Reason version 3.0 which i had the privilage of using in highschool and after i submitted a full review of the program to the makers, they were astonished and game me a full copy, for free.
This endevour took about 3 months to write, 2 weeks to score, and about a week of tinkering in Reason.
Thank you for your complements! They mean a lot!

They are all patches (instruments) within Reason v3.0. Propellor. I have numdred of thing i can do with each one. I can alter resonance, echo, style of room, attack, release, etc. I have had the program for well over 5 years, and i am still finding out new things to do and try. This was the best of each instrument i could muster for now. The next epic piece i write wont be as complex, my time is becoming more and more consumed with Culinary school. Music and food are my passion, maybe one day i can work along side fellow musicians and possibly land a job in a video game company or movie company composing music!
I am anything from professional, i want to be, but i am not. I am just a paranoid obsession driven perfectionist when it comes to orchestral literature. I tend to let Solo pieces such as piano slide on the perfect side, but i need some chaos

thank you, i just called him up and told him what you all said, apparently, he threw out his part of the song and just fixed the resonance and attack/releases, so now.....this piece is all me. His part he saved for the sequel/expansion haha. Smart man!
Absolutely beautiful but there is just ONE thing that is kinda...you know.
From 0:57 to 1:11 the leveling was too harsh. It would make that scratchy sound because it was not leveled properly and that would happen both on speakers and on headphones so i dont THINK its me. lol
That is the ONLY part that in my oppinion needed to be touched up.
Absolutely beautiful. I could really tell you put ALL of your feeling into this song.

Beautiful
-) The nautical theme almost embellishes this song with a wonderfully bright, epic atmosphere: I can't help but think that James Horner might have composed this during a pirate phase. Nevertheless, it is truly fantastic: though I personally believe the brass seemed to drown out the snare which needed more snap to it. Re-equalizing it might do the track, perhaps some minor distortion in the 'tape' compression form will help.
-) Aside from that, beautiful.
