Inspired by the classic arcade game by Don Bluth "Space Ace"

(I'm honestly surprised that there hasn't been an animated film based on the game)
Space Ape is pretty much an animal version of Space Ace, set in a world populated by anthro animals. As I choose the main hero species as a gorilla, I reused Sid's design. As for the warlord antagonist, I used Charlie's design, because he has the perfect villain look to him. https://www.furaffinity.net/view/48262942/
The last panel shows Sid and his friends Marin (goat) and Kaneda (reindeer) in an arcade, where Sid has been playing the interactive laser disc game the whole time.
In an alternative dimension set in a sci-fi world, I wouldn't be surprised if Sid is a bounty hunter/ space hero and Charlie is a criminal warlord or illegal weapons dealer.
