Well, new art, loooong overdue! And, if I may say so, I feel like I'm getting better.
The one thing I've always felt like I was terrible at was the head/face. So during my extended absence, I made sure to look at established artists to see how they draw faces to get expression. I'm still not great at drawing, but here's what I noted.
Eyebrows, however simple they may be, contain a lot of emotion. I've noted this in face to face conversations with friends, in other people's art, and even on South Park. So, I added eyebrows.
Cheeks also add a lot of shape and depth to the image, and again help define emotions a little better, so they too were added.
I also learned at least mild transparency to the hair can help maintain the build of the face. So I did that to some extent too. I also tried to smooth out her hair based on a few tutorials I read, giving a whole new hairstyle. I like it better personally, much less scruffy looking I think.
I also added eyelids to my eyes and tried to better shape the eyes, and I think it too has added a lot.
Lastly, I tried to clean everything up, making the lines less bold and sketch-ish, and I think that's helped a ton as well.
The pose is from a pose sheet by Adversity, I'll add the tags for that later when I'm not in a rush. There's still a lot of stuff I think I need to work on but I'm happy I can at least draw her head at this angle now, I'll probably try other angles later.
Anyways, comments and tips are as always appreciated. Things I'm gonna retcon are that she is now a caiman, because in my maind she's a shortish character, and I've always thought caimans are cooler. Gonna keep the name the same, decided I like it afterall. And it works well, Kendra the Caiman, right?
