It had been a few days since the incident, but reprieve was still needed.
After it all happened, the Compy had been taken to the hospital for evaluation, and fortunately the hospital wasn’t within the quadrant of the city the Brachio had unintentionally bulldozed in her furious charge. Quite miraculously, Constantine hadn’t suffered any broken bones from the beating he took, instead only receiving bruises, though said bruises were numerous. He had, however, received a minor concussion from the bat that was used to smack him unconscious.
Both the Large and Small Relations insurance firm and the Large Scale Courier Service had been informed of what had happened with their respective employees. The L&S expressed much gratitude towards the couriers for one of their giants going through such lengths to protect one of their agents, and in return, promised the couriers that they would work to minimize any monetary backlash Bayusha or the rest of the couriers may suffer, a kind gesture which took the couriers aback. Despite the incident, both companies came to realize that the partnership between Bayusha and Constantine was an example of the exact sort of relation they each wished to achieve between the large and the small.
Even so, both companies agreed to allow their respective employees paid time off to recuperate, so that Bayusha could ease her nerves and Constantine could allow his aching body to heal. They also saw to it that they wouldn’t be bothered by reporters looking to interview them about the incident, as neither of them were in a proper mental or physical state to comment.
It was also probably for the best that the two lay low for a bit, since public response to the whole incident had been rather… mixed…
Many differing opinions had been floating about. Some cited that Bayusha’s heroic sprint prevented Constantine from suffering something worse, as she indeed coaxed them out of hiding just by combing the city. Others chimed in by noting that it was thanks to her that the police were able to avert a kidnapping in record time.
But of course, for every bit of high praise, there was a bit of high criticism. Others believed that Bayusha’s pursuit across the city was far too reckless, as the damage sustained by the city was far worse than any other incident before this, including Pomeline’s stroll through town before this. A few even went as far to say that they didn’t blame the kidnappers for their actions.
There were also a sizable number of level-headed thinkers who cited that, while they understood why the kidnappers were angry, none of it justified committing assault and battery on someone who technically wasn’t at fault, and that while Bayusha perhaps could’ve been a little more careful, she was in the act of trying to save someone else.
The two cops who rode on Bayusha’s nose during the search had also been asked their opinions, since Bayusha and Constantine themselves had declined to comment. The female cop kept her comments brief, but ultimately credited Bayusha for her assistance in making the search go by so fast, and when asked how she felt about the damage, she stated, “It’s extensive, but we’ll rebuild. We always do… somehow.” Her partner, meanwhile, just went on and on about the levels of mixed adrenaline he felt during it all.
All of this noise, however, was not great for relaxation, and so Bayusha and Constantine spent some time away from it all. The best way to recover from such a thing, they figured, just to simply be together, and be away from everyone else, at least for a while.
The giant big-armed neck lizard was soaking in the middle of a secluded pool, or at least, to her it was a pool, but to Constantine it was a huge lake.
The little dainty-jaw lay within Bayusha’s navel filled with warm water, like a makeshift tub, soothing his wounds, while he took in the sunlight. Said bruises had gradually been healing, and even his black eye was starting to change back into his normal hue. Best of all though, was the feeling that he had this mountain all to himself, with no one else to bother him other than the mountain itself, along with some peace and quiet. He couldn’t remember the last time he felt so at ease. The only flaw was the lingering aches, but it wasn’t major enough to take away from everything else. He simply lay there, snoozing away, with nothing to disturb him… well, except for the feeling of him being constantly raised and lowered by Bayusha’s belly as she breathed, but he wasn’t complaining. In fact, the feeling of her expanding and contracting belly all around him reminded him that his big ol’ protector was right there, her mountainous body all around him, and that was enough to make him feel as though for once, he was allowed to relax.
As for Bayusha, she simply watched as her little biter snored away in her belly button hot tub. She felt an overwhelming sense of calmness just from watching him sleep, and at the moment, she needed this so much. Just the sight of him in the most tranquil state she had probably ever seen him in was so satisfactory that she felt herself at the most ease she had felt in days. Since the little guy was usually on edge almost all the time, seeing him this relaxed felt like a crowning achievement. Of course, she wished this could’ve been achieved without the incident preceding it, but… no, there was no need to think about that. The two of them had come here specifically for the purpose of NOT thinking about that.
Still, she thought to herself as she continued to watch Constantine doze. ‘My little biter, you are biggest treasure. I protect you, like dragon protect hoard. I swear it…’
A follow-up to the worst day ever for Bayusha and Constantine. The two take a much-needed reprieve.
Practicing more of these perspective views. Surprised I hadn't yet done a piece showing what it's like being on Bayusha's gigantic body from Constantine's view.
Enjoy!
